Default Just did a headlight restoration

The guy finished it off with Meguirs compound, but no UV coating like I've ride online. So is it ok like that or should I go buy something to coat it so it can last a bit longer?

Go buy some sort of UV coating. Otherwise the plastic in the headlight will oxidize and turn yellow. I think this is the step many leave out when reconditioning their headlights. If the uv coating is not done, be prepared to redo the headlamp in about 3 months time.

Will the Meguiar's Headlight Protectant work the same as the spray?

no sealant or protectant will last.

You will need to do a light polish with meguiars ultimate polish again in a few months.

in the meantime just use any paint sealant

or if you want to spend more money, use Optilens.
when applied correctly, it's supposed to provide long term protection

I did the same thing... I notice after a few months its been yellowing... does this mean I need to sand it again? or would polishing/compounding do the job?

It really depends on how bad they are. My rule of thumb is use the least abrasive products first before going heavier. Try using Plastix by meguiars.

It is true that no sealant or protectant lasts forever. However, redoing the headlight with protectant is a far easier solution vs seeing the headlights slowly yellow.

I looked up optilens and this looks like the best solution for uv protection. I believe it is a polymer coating. So that essentially means doing it all over again, because if you want a coating to last it is all about the prep work.

Yes the headlight protectant by meguiars will work fine.

One of mine is finally starting to go cloudy on me. Not really looking forward to the process. Most that I've seen do it, looks good for only a very short period of time after and it just seems to put the final nail into the headlights coffin going forward.

After achieving the clarity I want, I just do regular maintenance with Ultimate Polish. I don't need to buy a separate bottle of plastx.
UP is super cheap and almost nonabrasive, and easily removes the yellow crud that builds up every month.

once a car gets over 7 years old, headlights become part of regular maintenance. I try to never sand the lens. Just polishing compound.

I've noticed that headlights with lots of chrome inside, like the GS and other lexus models, even get haziness inside the lens, near the top edge.
It's a real bich. Must be the sunlight reflecting inside the headlamps.

I sanded mine, buffed them out and then applied optilens. It has held up great for the past few months.

Depends on what he sanded the headlights with. If it was 1500 or 2000 and buffed then theres no need for any special chemicals a regular wax or wax sealer will work fine.

Now if the lights were bad and he sanded lower then 1000 and took off the clear coat then yes you will need something special. Anything you put on is only temporary! The right way to do it is sand down the headlights fully, spray a high grade plastic primer, and a high grade 2k clear coat. Not exactly diy as you can easily goof up applying the clear and making them look terrible. Best to take it to a body shop and have them spray them. They will come out like brand new

On the wifes 07 Sienna i sanded buffed and put the weather tech covers (mylar) over them and still crystal clear. I'm going to order the mylar for the GS and do the same just my .02.
