I have an 07 GS 350. When I'm driving on any winding road, every time I turn the wheel to the right, I hear a kind of scraping sound for as long as the steering wheel is turned even a little. It's only when I turn the wheel to the right and only and only the front left tire.

I thought it might be the disc brake dust shield, but I pulled the tire off, took a look, and can see that it isn't touching the rotor anywhere. There really isn't much else that I can think of that it could be, so I'm basically stumped. The brake pads are nice and thick and everything looks really good.

Any help would be appreciated.

 

I had the same thing... appeared cometely inexplicable, could find nothing wrong. Nose went away, but came back after i washed the car, I assume it was rotor rust and pads or something else making contact. I took an onramp (a very hard right) at as fast of a speed I can and it seems that whatever it is got scraped off and i have not had the sound back for 2 weeks now

 

Lucky you! I don't tend to have great luck like that.

Mine has been doing this about 6 months.The noise has never gone away and it's been through many car washes. I didn't bother with it because it was winter and didn't affect anything. It's just an annoyance. I looked at it today because my wife said it was getting louder. I think it's louder to her because she drives with the window down now that winter is over.

I took the wheel off and everything looks great. No rust anywhere. Everything is clean as a whistle, at least a clean whistle. I've been a DIY mechanic for 30 years and would've bet that it was that shield scraping, but it wasn't touching the rotor at any point.

I had the same thing happen to me not long after I bought my car. The culprit was the dust shield behind the rotor. It didn't appear to be touching the rotor, but upon turns it somehow would. Maybe not enough slack between the rotor and turning angle, but I used a stick and gently pushed the plate away from the rotor. Noise disappeared. It seems to be a back and forth issue because the same noise came back some months later and I did the same thing with the same result of no noise afterwards. Give it a try

 

I HAVE THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM DOING RIGHT TURNS! DRIVER SIDE FRONT.... It comes and goes and especially after I wash it... I believe.... But not when i do left turns...

 

Guys, try gently pushing the dust shield back a bit. It might be the reason, and is the cheapest way to start ruling things out. Goodluck!

 

I have the samething,come to find out its the inner fender lining The windshield washer reservoir is directly behind that,so I unbolted it pushed it in just alil,then bolted it back up,scraping noise went away

 

so i recently got an alignment and I think it sort of helped with the problem.... I rarely hear it scraping unlessi take turns at about 20-25mph on a block....
