There is a thread on here of a member that converted his non-NAV unit to one with navigation. It seemed pretty intensive (for me since I'm not very mechanically inclined lol) but if you do a search it should come up. Good luck!

Anything is possible with the right amount of time and money lol. You can buy all the OEM parts needed to install navigation in your car from Lexus and put them in. Like Steve said, it is going to require a good amount of work and the navi parts aren't cheap from Lexus.

It's not as simple as installing a new brain or upgrading some software - if you compare the head unit to a picture of one with nav, you'll find that yours has fewer physical buttons on it. The missing buttons control the nav, so you would have to replace or somehow upgrade the head unit as well as add the nav hard drive and computer in the back. The backup camera is an additional computer, but as far as I remember all the necessary wires are already bundled in the harness.

It's a lot of work...lol. To me the factory Navigation system sucks so I wouldn't do it but if you have enough time, money, and the will then I can be done!

I agree, the factory nav is crappy when it comes to location input and recognition. It's not totally bad, and in my case probably requires a software update -- I have an '08 350. I believe the wires and harnesses are already there, but you would obviously need the physical peripherals to make it all come together, plus the software and who knows what else lol. I also saw a member fabricated an aftermarket radio unit at the bottom of their center stack which I thought was pretty cool. To each their own. Good luck if you decide to spice things up!

For comparison: my friends '06 M35x navigation unit makes the 3rd gen GS's look very inferior

I just recently purchased a 2008 Lexus GS 350 and I am in the same boat I've done an extensive amount of research and thanks to the guys here I've kind of come up with my own conclusion. Like everyone is stated it's a huge pain in the *** a lot of time and money which I have neither of lol

What I'm going to do tomorrow is purchase one of these which will sync directly with my samsung galaxy s5, this will not have any thing to do with a backup camera but it sure as hell will help out a lot with the navigation as I use Waze for my GPS anyways it should mirror perfectly, please correct me if I am wrong and also let me know the disadvantages of using this technology

Zoom 85,

I own same car......mine is 2008 GS 350 no nav nor back up camera.

Like Jodwin I did extensive research and made the same conclusion.......way too much hastle, time and $$ to attempt to install a factory nav & back up camera.

As Jodwin recommends the Vaistech is an excellent option......I plan on buying and installing first of the new yr.

Tell me about it...its about as basic as the navi in my old 3.2 TL...lol

But I upgraded the one in the GS about 2 months ago...new streets....nothing more...
