When I took it to Lexus to check the oil leak they claimed that whoever was doing the oil changes was doing a crappy job since oil was all over the place. They cleaned the area around the front timing cover and told me to come back after 1000 miles. So in summary, I took it to Lexus for the recall, they fixed the recall, but I believe they didn't seal or seat the cover properly and now they want me to pay $3000 to fix this oil leak....after only two years...where is the quality of work there?...am I expected to fork over $3000 every couple of years because there is no incentive for Lexus to do it right the first time.
So since they cleaned it...have you seen more leakage? If so, did you take it back and have them re inspect the timing cover?

I had a leak caused by the repair from the oil pan, it only took 6 months for me to notice it leaking on the driveway though. The dealership that did the piston rings gives a 2 year warranty on their work so they took care of it without any issue. So the benefit here is that I had fluorescent dye added to my oil and everything checked twice with a UV light and no other leaks anywhere were found. I figure with the dye added anything even a small leak would have been pretty easy for them to notice so hopefully I'm in the clear.

It's always a risk when major work is done that something won't turn out quite perfect. 3 years later though, well, it's hard to argue responsibility after that long.

Lexus did confirm that there was a leak. They want $3k now to fix it.

Default 2006 lexus gs oil consunttion

Dealer did a consumption test and determined i used over 1 1/4 quarts in 1100 miles that comes to a quart every 800 miles or a quart every 2nd or 3rd gas fill up
was told to contact lexus customer satisfaction .

Lexus said they would do nothing about the problem

went back to dealer and asked what can i do to solve the problem
was told they did not recommend taking the engine apart as i may have more problems after that was done then i have now

was told to look into getting a rebuilt engine
checked on the internet for rebuilt engines for this lexus and could not find any available.
Only engines available where out of a junk yard with anywhere from 80,000 to 140,000 miles on them
did not think this is a good choice

only solution i can see is trading it in if anyone will give me anything for it

gs owners that want to keep there cars are in for trouble

its a lexus design problem that there is no good solution

I had a 2006 GS300 AWD with low miles that I thought I would keep for a very long time. As soon as I started reading the GS forums regarding the issues with this model, I traded it in, that was in February this year. It was in good condition and I got $16,000 for it and considered myself lucky.

Default Oil Type

Post the brand and oil weight (i.e. 0w20, 5w20, 0w30 or 5w30) you're using in the cars that are consuming oil?

I first bough a new GS 300 in 2003 and liked very much. When it was totaled due to an accident, I bought a used GS 300 in 2012 with 78k miles.
Starting this year, with about 120k, oil engine is consumed excessively. I had to add 2 qt, of oil every 2000 miles when the low engine light comes. I realized thru this club that this model has same problem at over 100k
If same problem occurs like this, it should be native problem of engine.:

I bought my 2006 gs 300 just over a year ago with 100,000 miles on it. 2nd owner. It has burnt a quart of oil for about every thousand to 1,500 miles since I got it. Took it to Toyota and they told me that it is not a problem until you get to burning a quart every 600 miles or so. They said it is just what most of these motors do. I have an erratic idle problem also, it throws a P0505 idle air control system code all the time. I was told by Toyota that it is my throttle body but they want $1,400 to replace it, yeah no. I have been driving it over a year and it has never let me down, hasn't got and different fuel mileage than at any other time. But I did find that when it starts idling erratically that if I hit the off button on my heating/cooling system that it smoothes out and idles like it should. I have 120,000 miles on it now and it still runs great and is a wonderful car but im sure one day it will crap out on me if problem is carbon build up or ring problems, till then HAMMER DOWN. I use 5W20 weight oil.

Have you ever pulled off your throttle body and gave it a good cleaning inside and out? If not I would do that, also a if you read above I mentioned pouring seafoam into each spark plug hole and let it sit overnight. Then remove the seafoam out and install new plugs.

If I owned a GS300 I would take it to a bmw specialist
(they charge around 2-400 dollars) that does walnut blasting. Some will work on Lexus's they will have to remove the intake manifold and attach a special vacuum nozzle with an opening for a sand blaster nozzle. This will clean the heads valves and the tops of the pistons.

In the 24 years I worked as a tech at the Lexus dealership, the 1 quart per 1000 miles was Always True. It's just the way that engine is designed. Turning your A/C on and off shows that the "idle up" for compressor load is working. The idea of cleaning and lubricating the idle air control valve is not a bad one since they do get sticky between carbon build up and varnishing from fuel.

BMW quit walnut blasting their cars years ago. They still do it to some Mini engines. It would be a waste of time for the concerns you are having. (I managed the Used Car Service at a BMW dealership also).

Use the prescribed 5 or 10w / 30 listed on the oil filler cap.

Why would removing carbon build up from a known problem engine be a waste of time? Sure you can clean with chemicals and a brush, but whats bad about walnuts?

you guys kill me buy a gs300 with Di and be surprised when it burns oil. No **** it burns oil the things have over a decade of carbon build up on the rings. if you want a car that lasts forever with no maintenance, buy a corolla.
