How do you find the overall handling. The car mags pretty much all give the GS460 a thumbs down but I don't always agree with their reviews. At least for the case of my GS400 it never had good reviews for handling but I actually don't mind it at all. Granted it's not a Porche but with a few mods its not a bad sports sedan. Does the 460 handle like a boat or is it reasonably nimble?
Stock for stock, the GS460 is a hell of a lot more fun than my GS400 was. Keep in mind that the 430/460/450h all come with the suspension stiffening button (whatever it's called), which actually helps significantly, so I honestly would say that it handles far from a boat. I can only imagine what upgraded sway bars will do.

Thaks for all your feedback. GS460>>GS400 is very encouraging...

I have heard that the GS460 has an electronic sway that tightens up when needed. I wonder if that means that you can use aftermarket sways with the 460. Anyone know if that's true?

Hmmm, you're right.

The GS 460 also offers the advanced Active Power Stabilizer system that reduces body sway and enhances vehicle control during cornering. This fast-acting system uses electric actuators, rather than slower hydraulic actuators used in most competitors’ systems. An Electronic Control Unit (ECU) calculates the force needed to counter excess body sway, which is then applied to the stabilizer bars by the front and rear actuators.

*very* rare option. Some of the APSSS components occupy the spare wheel well in the trunk floor when equipped.

Does this mean you can't have a spare with APSSS?

No, you still can. The previous owner of my GS fitted a factory space-saver spare tire after doing away with run-flat tires.

Where did they put the space-saver spare tire? I wonder if I can do it on a GS450h.

I'm not sure where it would fit based on the picture in this thread. It shows the trunk and wheel well on a car with APSSS.

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/hyb...t-a-spare.html

Many cars that came new with runflats did not come with a spare and some owners later picked up a space saver (that's all that was offered in North American market). I think I remember seeing that some other markets had a full size spare and a different tub well in the trunk.

Edit: APSSS seems like a really awesome option, but improving handling through electronic wizardry and then requiring runflat tires seems like a giant contradiction.

Considering all of that excess equipment, it looks as though I do not have the APSSS option.

My GS460 comes with a full size spare! Always good to have a spare wheel in hand!

If it comes with a full size spare then it must be bulging out in the middle of the trunk. Can you take post a pic?

Just wanted to point out the real (Lexus reported) numbers of GS460s manufactured. Thomas GS4 claims that "The GS460 was 3GS only; ~1600 were ever made from 2008-2011", but that isn't quite right. A few more made it off the factory floor (but not that many more!). See attached. Sorry, but right now I don't have the numbers for 2011 or later (if there were any made in later years -- I seem to recall seeing somewhere that they were available only through special order, and I'd love to learn of any from those years!). Regardless, the total numbers are very low. I count 1715 units from 2008 to 2010, and I assume that is global. So -- if you have one, keep the maintenance and warranty work up, avoid impromptu body work, and please be aware of how truly fortunate we are! Our 2008 GS460 is absolutely wonderful, especially with studded Hakkapelittas all-'round for winter! Love it -- can't be beat! Cheers to all / LexLeezard

LexLeezard, for what it's worth, here's a mighty fine example of a 2011 GS460 for sale. They are out there, believe it or not!

I appreciate the call-out; it's interesting to see the actual production numbers. Now if we could only get the 2011 PDF...

Absolutely love the rarity of my GS460, that's why I still plan on keeping the GS460 when I acquire the upcoming GS-F.
