Our 2006 GS 300 has 135K and recently started experiencing this same jerk/jolt/clunk harsh downshift while slowing to a stop. The transmission has never been serviced. I took our GS to my regular independent garage in Oakland, California. Our mechanic is good and I trust him, but he is not a Lexus expert. He did diagnosis and found 3 codes: PO138 Oxygen sensor, PO158 Oxygen Sensors, and PO756 shift solenoid B performance S2. Did the following:
1. Flashed computer to update, cost $200
2. Replaced S2 solenoid
3. replaced transmission filter and fluid
4. new gasket

Total cost was $1,100. Unfortunately this did not fix the problem (just one day of driving post fix so far). Mechanic said problem goes away when car is driven in "limp" mode (computer not controlling the transmission). He said that means the problem is the ECU, not the transmission.

This thread also seems to indicate the real fix for this problem is to replace the ECU. Online cost for the ECU ranges from $1K to $1,200. What is a reasonable cost to install the ECU?

MonkeyRX fixed this problem with an ECU flash (firmware update). Has anyone else had the same success with an just ECU flash update?

Also, is it crazy that the transmission fluid and filter does not have to replaced at any certain mileage? It does not see.m to be on the service schedule.

Thank you all!
OTbruce
Took mine to Lexus of Pleasanton and Dublin Transmission. Each said its the transmission. WRONG! I took the path of lowest cost. Send your ECU to SIA Electtronics and telll them what your issue is. They will replace the circuit for it for about $100- $150. Mine was the harsh 2-1 downshift and they replaced the circuit for the transmission within the ECU.

I bought an ecu from lkq wrecking yard for $350 and i know a friend of mine that programmed it he charges $300 all together $750 car was like brand new. But my 06 gs300 had a really bad banging when it comes to stop felt like someone was hitting me from the back. But it worked. So if you want to give it a try call me 2094959333

There links provided on this board for a company that will repair your existing ECU for less than $200. No need to spend $350 on an unknown used unit and another $300 for someone to reprogram it.

How easy is it to access the ECU? I fell like I saw somewhere that a fender needs to be taken off. I tried searching, but I can't find any guides on this.
