Got it done today. First driving impression is the car idles a bit smoother. Anyway I am happy with the service, on top of that a free tank of gas and a car wash always a plus.

Got mine back and seems a little smoother and quieter. No big change. Got tank of gas, wash and confirmed they did not reuse the valve cover gaskets. Good deal afterall!

Same here. Dropped the car off at 8:30. Done by 4:30.
Got gas tank filled.
Honestly, I couldn't tell any difference in noises and couldn't tell if they opened the engine up.
Idle is still the same around 600 RPM.

Wouldn't it be too messy for them to reuse the valve cover gaskets?

It would possibly make a big mess if they ruined the integrity of the existing gaskets opening up the covers then tried to reuse them. My experience has been to always replace a gasket once you open something up that has one.

Redux: Will this procedure make getting to the sparkplugs easier? If so, I may have the dealer install new ones when the recall service is done.
Also, will the mechanic possibly check for coolant leaks, which could result in me opting for a new water pump.
Thanks

...also fwiw, I called the dealer to schedule the recall work, and am taking the car in on the 26th of this month. I was told they're doing one car per day, and the procedure takes about 6 1/2 hours.

The mechanic told me there are no cam seals or crank seal. I went to the Sewell's lexus site and sure enough, there is no crank seal available for the GS350.

I was told that I would get a discount on the spark plugs, if I wanted them done. I'm at 50k miles, any opinions on if I should do the plugs now? Thanks

Default Anyone else?

So funny thing, Got mine back today and it feels like it is a bit “rougher” also steering feels like it now has a drag on it. Then again, it could all be in my head since they had me driving around an ES350H for 3 days. I’ll wait a few days to see if I get used to it or if it gets worse…

I am in exactly same position, 50K miles, but if I can get the new spark plugs at under $150, I am doing it. Otherwise I would have to do it myself 10K miles later, and it would take a lot of time and beer, not counting the busted knuckles.

I had my spark plugs done with the recall work and they charged me $230 and i had the diff changed and the charged me $92. The plug job was at a discount so they said... lol..i went ahead and had it done since i had 70k miles on the car.

You can get spark plugs for about $15 each and it only takes about 1/2 hour or so to complete.

Haha i felt the same way! Drove the 2013 ES and the steering was so light, made my GS feel hard afterwards. Anyways I got the recall done, full tank of gas, also i told them about my brakes squeaking, they replaced front pads and rotors for free, warranty covered it.

I assume this observation means at the dealer during the recall procedure, not in your driveway - correct?
