Bring mine in next Tuesday. It's a one day job. A team of 3 techs works on a car.
I wonder if they have to wait for the engine to cool down before working on it.

Only master techs can preform the repair, at the time their techs were busy with other cars.

Default Jan. 15th 2014 appt.??!!

Received recall letter and called my local dealer, South Bay Lexus, Torrance, CA for appt., Their 1st available was January 15th, 2014(not a misprint). When I asked for an explanation, they said they have limited parts allocation. I'm beginning to understand why my neighbors travel 20 miles further, to Longo Lexus, for service.

GS300 are not in the recall

For the GS300 Lexus will rebuild your engine for free as a courtesy warranty IF you show signs of carbon buildup ie check engine light and rough idle.

I just received my recall notice yesterday. I hope that they have a few of these under their belt.

I just set service with Longo last week...I got a Dec 11th date. Still better than Jan 15th though.

They said the would only send notice to people who are covered....does that mean effected by the recall or covered under factory warranty?

Yeah, I thought Jan 15th was a ridiculous amount of time for "earliest available". It's just that they're so close to my home, and I don't think there's a sense of urgency to get this done. Otherwise, I'd call around for a better time frame.

also note, as a benefit to those with higher mileage these are also being replaced along with the gears.

Dropped car off this morning, advisor told me they have been reusing valve cover gaskets. I told him the kit came with new ones and I wanted them on the car. To think they would cut corners on a $12 gasket really pisses me off.

Will this procedure make getting to the sparkplugs easier? If so, I may have the dealer install new ones when the recall service is done.
Also, will the mechanic possibly check for coolant leaks, which could result in me opting for a new water pump.
Thanks in advance.

...also fwiw, I called the dealer to schedule the recall work, and am taking the car in on the 26th of this month. I was told they're doing one car per day, and the procedure takes about 6 1/2 hours.
