Lexus Recall
#170
Jan. 15th 2014 appt.??!!
Received recall letter and called my local dealer, South Bay Lexus, Torrance, CA for appt., Their 1st available was January 15th, 2014(not a misprint). When I asked for an explanation, they said they have limited parts allocation. I'm beginning to understand why my neighbors travel 20 miles further, to Longo Lexus, for service.

Yeah, I thought Jan 15th was a ridiculous amount of time for "earliest available". It's just that they're so close to my home, and I don't think there's a sense of urgency to get this done. Otherwise, I'd call around for a better time frame.

Dropped car off this morning, advisor told me they have been reusing valve cover gaskets. I told him the kit came with new ones and I wanted them on the car. To think they would cut corners on a $12 gasket really pisses me off.

Will this procedure make getting to the sparkplugs easier? If so, I may have the dealer install new ones when the recall service is done.
Also, will the mechanic possibly check for coolant leaks, which could result in me opting for a new water pump.
Thanks in advance.

...also fwiw, I called the dealer to schedule the recall work, and am taking the car in on the 26th of this month. I was told they're doing one car per day, and the procedure takes about 6 1/2 hours.
