Skylar this recall has nothing to do with leaking oil. If your car is leaking oil this recall will not fix it. You may have some other issues going on with your car.

Also it is very rare for the engine just to fail from this part the vvti cam gear. This recall is because it rattles on cold start up. This is not a safety hazard, even though the letter even though the letter states that it is.

My car SOMETIMES dies when I reverse. I wouldn't say sometimes, it happened 4 times only. My oil level is fine too. Just waiting for lexus to take action so I can bring my car in. The noise is kinda of embarrassing!

Engine failure here!!!!

I know my GS350 consumes oil. So I check the oil at least once every two weeks.
I noticed the engine consumes oil fasster when the oil is dirty.
About 3000 miles after the oil change, the oil level on the dip stick starts going down.

If your cars consuming oil and you do not have any leaks. If your running synthetic oil I would switch to regular oil and maybe a higher weight.

Not a single drop on the ground. I don't use synthetic oil. Regular Mobil 5W-30..
Could try Mobil High Mileage next time or change the oil at 3500 instead of 5000 miles.

I would avoid using any high mile oils as a lot of those oil have chemicals that swell your oil seals. Thats fine if you stick to using that oil, but if you return to another oil, You'll have a greater chance of having oil leaks.

5,000 on dino oil is way too much, I believe there is your oil problem. I use dino also and I change mine every 2,500 miles. Stick to the 5w-30 but just change it sooner.

There certainly isn't any urgency on Lexus part to get this problem fixed.

Hey guys, I brought my car to Lexus of San Diego for an oil change and my service advisor told me about the recall so they will be holding my car for the weekend to fix it. It looks like Lexus is starting to implement repairs for the engine now.

Default Remedy Notice now available

Just posted to my My Lexus/Lexus Drivers account:

Safety Recall DLG Remedy Notice - Certain 2006 to 2011 Model Year IS350, Certain 2010 to 2011 Model Year IS350C and Certain 2007 to 2011 Model Year GS350 Vehicles - 2GR-FSE Intake VVT Actuator Gear

This is an important Safety Recall. Please contact your authorized Lexus dealer and schedule an appointment to have this remedy performed as soon as possible.

What is the Condition? The subject vehicles are equipped with a Variable-Valve Timing (VVT) system which controls the camshafts to provide optimal valve timing under certain driving conditions. The bolts used to secure the housing and sprocket of the intake-side VVT gear assembly could become loose due to abnormal impacts generated within the gear assembly immediately after a cold start-up. If this occurs, the VVT gear will not control the intake valves correctly. In certain cases, the VVT gear housing and sprocket could separate and result in an engine stall while the vehicle is being driven, increasing the risk of a crash.

I Just called Highland Park Lexus (IL) and they didnt even know about the recall. The lady said she will call me back. About 5 minutes later she called back and told me they have no parts for the recall, and have no idea when they will get them.

Some dealers may take a few days to propagate the info between departments. Parts departments may have not let others know they have them yet or are waiting on the sst, special service tool
But to say they didn't even know about it, well that's just lazy. Preliminary notices went out months ago, we have to acknowledge them in order to log onto Lexus.
