Anyone try Maxlux 6000k HID Bulbs?
I found a pair of these 6000k HID bulbs on amazon for $46.99! Now this sounds too good to be true, but the reviews have given positive feedback. Have any of you tried these Maxlux bulbs in your GS's?

Not much info on them, they seem to have started in 2002. Never heard of them.

:cool:Never heard, but try it out and let us know lol.

I think i'm gonna give them a try at that price theres not much to lose. My passenger side headlight goes out every once in a while so I think the bulbs are about due for replacement.

Actually I should have posted these. They are D4C, so they should work for D4R and D4S. The pic shows D4R so not sure if they just reused the photo.

I tried to post this yesterday. Sorry. GoDaddy was being STEWPID!
98GS430, I have those exact MAXLUX 6000k bulbs in my 08 GS350 AWD. Here are pics...my opinion to follow (sorry if the pics are too big, I did resize them to 20%). As you see, the bulbs turn deep blue for a second: http://trocks797.com/extra/car/10.jpg Here are some comparison shots (2011 RX350 w/ stock HID bulbs)....my moms look halogen in comparison! http://trocks797.com/extra/car/2.jpg http://trocks797.com/extra/car/3.jpg BUT, her car has a MUCH cleaner cut-off (more on this in a sec): http://trocks797.com/extra/car/1.jpg My bulbs are installed the same way on each side. WHAT IS UP WITH THE RIGHT SIDE?? Bad bulb? http://trocks797.com/extra/car/4.jpg http://trocks797.com/extra/car/5.jpg http://trocks797.com/extra/car/6.jpg http://trocks797.com/extra/car/7.jpg http://trocks797.com/extra/car/8.jpg http://trocks797.com/extra/car/9.jpg So do I like them? No. I don't. See...what I was going for is exactly what my mothers RX does- that blue/purple intense flicker as the car goes down the road (and your eyes cross over the cutoff of the headlight). The RX with stock 4300k bulbs masters this. What we have here is a blueish light that encompasses the ENTIRE light, which looks aftermarket and ricey to me...not what I was going for. See, the projectors in our GS and the IS are smaller than the projectors on her RX, which I believe translates to a sharper cutoff (or wider projected cutoff). I have never ever seen the flickery blue/purple cutoff from an IS or GS, but I always assumed it was the bulb...I now believe it is the projector. So I am headed back to 4300k bulbs as the light output is different, and I don't like that ricer look. Hope this helps, and if anyone else has any theories, I am all ears! |
Thanks so much for the pics and video Trocks! I def know what your talking about with the cutoff, is it just me or does the RX do that better then any car. Seems like every time I see one at night I notice how clean and bright the beam is. I have to admit I do like the 6000k color even though it could look slightly "ricey". Gonna order my pair tonight, at that price they are a bargain!

id get the proper bulbs (D4S) and just a warning, cheaper quality bulbs dont seem to work very long, if not at all, on our cars.
|
Correct me if I'm wrong, but those look like generic piece o crap bulbs.
Or it seems that way. It isn't too good to be true in that case, as you get what you pay for in the realm of HID bulbs. Also those bulbs are wrong, we use D4S... IXI is right, those garbage bulbs will not last long on our cars, if they even work properly at all.... Spend the extra 70$ and get Garax, or spend the extra $90 and get Xenon Depot. GL! |
Junk stay away!
Don't buy these on Amazon from Maxlux USA. They are extremely cheap HID bulbs! I needed replacements quickly and with my Amazon prime (2 day shipping) I decided after reading the reviews to buy.
They turned out to be junk after less than 90 days. Flickering, color changes and simply turning off! You get what you pay for and I would never buy from Maxlux USA ever again. I hope this helps others on this forum from making the mistake I did. To make matters worse I couldn't even return them with Amazon since I passed my window of returns. It's a trick a lot of these HID bulb dealers play, buy cheap bulbs that will last 3-6 months to ensure their amazon account, ebay and paypal won't let anyone dispute or return. Trust me I know...I created and sold a large xenon bulb website that was around way before they became commodities. At least with my lights and buying from a reputable company they lasted over 1 year. Don't make a mistake and buy from this company...what a joke! Buyer beware!!!! |
If it sounds to good to be true, it probably is. Spend the extra money on decent bulbs. I bought cheap ones and ended up needing to replace them anyway within a year, so you think you're saving but really spending more money in the long run.
