I had an 07 IS i added 55w ballast 5000k but they were non hid from factory. I wasnt sure if the ballast was just a simple plug and play where we could swap it out. Maybe ill have to give this a shot

they can be swapped out. you have to remove your headlight. the ballast is on the underside. dont know if 55w will work but i know you can change the ballast as ive done it before.

only one way to find out but if it doesnt work, would be costly to replace the wiring harness if it melts.

Haven't changed to 55W but did change to a regular ballast. Here is a write up for it. It's for an IS but same concept for the GS. Did it on my IS and GS.

Kuwupt thats awesome i dnt think havina 55w ballast would make a diff to wiring since its the ballast the coverts everything. Right? I mean going from NoN hid to hid would be the same is a way?

Wiring it should be the same, the only question there though would be if the housing would be ok with the extra heat. It should be, but that would or should be the main question.
Also if you are comfortable with baking the headlights to open it up and changing the lens itself with some TSX-R clear lenses from theretrofitsource that itself should make a world of a difference. I have not personally done it yet but will be doing this on the 3GS shortly. I have done the clear lens swap on my retrofitted M45 projectors in the 2GS and that was a nice improvement.
