Default Good deal? Or not?

I've been searching for my '08 GS for about two months now, and am growing agitated that I cannot find anything reasonable in my price range, which is now $26k OTD cash.

The car I'm looking at is a black/black example with 76k miles, Nav but no ML, and at a non-Lexus dealership. It's a one owner car that appears to be pristine, both mechanically and cosmetically.

The guy wants $24,500 but said he'd take $23,500 which works out to $25k OTD. This car will not come with any kind of warranty, which makes me weary because these cars are very expensive to repair.

Should I pull the trigger or continue the agonizing wait?

Is it a GS350 or 450H? Even if you bought it from a Toyota or Lexus dealership it wouldn't come standard with a warranty unless you purchased an extended warranty or it was a GS450H which the hybrid system would still be under Lexus warranty.

I would recommend getting a car fax to see how many owners the vehicle has had or if the vehicle has been the a Lexus or Toyota dealership for service and repairs.

It is a one owner GS350. And since it is not at a Toyota/Lexus dealer, an extended warranty cannot be purchased, which is extremely disadvantageous as far as I'm concerned.

Another astounding reality: there are FOUR black/black '08 GS350's in DFW and not a single one is at a Toyota/Lexus dealership.

you can enter the vin# and find out the service history

I wouldnt worry that the car is not at a Toyota or Lexus dealer. And that is NO reason for you not to be able to obtain and extended warranty unless the car doesn't qualify and they are not sharing something with you??

Price is "ok" could be a little better but not a dealer breaker if you like the car. ML is up to you if its important as an option then just wait it out. Another thing is have you checked classified section here? or private party?? You don't have to buy from a dealer and if I was to pick up another 3gen GS it would be a GS450h any day of the week

shame on Lexus for the poor marketing job they did on the GSh

I wish I had known more about this when I got my V8 because my decision would have been much different. I know this car could have done so much better if the car was advertised and marketed better from the start. I hope they do a better job with the 4gen GS, even with the car being different, they really need to bring their A game this time...

It's not that bad. I saw a 08 GS350 w/ 83k on it for $25,000.

By the way it is fully loaded and "VIP".

I would say go with what your heart tells you. If you're "feeling" the car, then go with it, otherwise look for another.

Here's a nice GS350, 2008, and 1 owner Texas car w/ lots of service at a Lexus dealer in Houston.. but it's here in Carrollton (DFW) now. And it has the blackwood trim, I really like how that looks. $25k, and under 55k miles! You can get the OTD for that one under your budget I bet. What colors are you looking for? Personally I've had 4 Lexus and never had a warranty. Maybe I'm lucky but I ran my 2nd gen GS's over 100k miles and reliability is very good. Davenport Motors here is a great asset and very reasonable for service and maintenance. I can' tspeak for 3rd Gen GS though on that...

Sounds like a decent price, try to negotiate a little more.

On the 2008 GS Lexus extended the power train warranty to 6 yr - 100K mi because of the spring valve recall issue.....it was more of a consumer confidence issue in Lexus at the time.

I own a 2008 GS 350 rear wheel drive and really like the car.

Warranty follows the car.....to the next owner.

Suggest you call your local Lexus dealer.....give him the VIN and he will check on the service history.

I had my spring value replacement done at my local Louisville Lexus dealer.......no issues or problems.....its about a $6,000 job that the dealer bills to Lexus.

Hope this helps.

Just keep looking till you find the right one. I had been looking for an 08 GS 460 for over 6 months. Wanted one with 35 to 45 K for under $30 but had not found it in the Texas market. Looking on Yahoo right before Christmas, I found an 09 GS460 loaded. Everything except the radar? cruise. It had 44k and was at the local Toyota store. Ran down there and drove out the door with an extended warranty for $30.

You never know.
