Default GS430 vs GS460

I was wondering, those who owned both. How big is the difference in power, acceleration and such. I'm a V-8 junkie and as a GS430 owner I am thinking of upgrading to a 460 in a year or two.
More power and 8-speed tranny sound sounds sweet to me.
I love my 430. Excellent power and overall dynamics. Tranny is sweet as they come.
Also, with my 06, I have yet to complain about not being able to turn off traction control yet. I dont see how people say its over intrusive. I know 07-up it can be disabled.

So for those who owned them, can you chime in?

Thanks

I have not owned them both, but have driven my fair share of 430's and currently own a 460. IMO, the 460 has much more power and pickup than the 430 and its very noticable. To be honest, I think the 350's have more power than the 430's as well. My brother's buddy has a 430 as well and we have raced in a number of ways (i.e. from a stop, 30mph punch, 60mph punch, etc.) and on every occasion, my 460 smoked his 430...

Also, the one thing I am not certain on this, but maybe you can chime in on is I am pretty sure the 460's interior is much more plush. I didn't think the 430's had the semi-aniline leather or Mark Levinson sound where the 460 comes standard with this.... Again, not 100% here.

This is not true at all... I have an 08 GS460 and you can shut down the TC completely just by holding down the TC button for about 5 seconds while stopped. I am pretty sure they added that feature in 07, and the 06 and earliers still have to use the pedal trick. There is still always the pedal trick that will allow you to completely shut down the whole VDIM system on the 07 and ups too.

Thank for your input.

My 430 has ML, and all the toys the 460's have as I understand minus the mp3 playback capability. The only major difference is the motor, 8speed tranny and some cosmetics. Some minor interior changes which most I dont care for.
Main thing that interest me is the bigger v8 and 8speed tranny.

Thanks

My trac will never turn off completely. I have an 07' 450

Ive been in 430's and one 460. I like the 430 better. The engine seems more alive for whatever reason.

Interesting though, my buddy's 460 could only keep up with me till about 80mph...then i just pulled away. I figured it would have been the other way around.

Basically what you'll get is gen 5 navigation, a little better ml system, the updated seat clips/ door locks, mirror blinkers, 08+ bumpers, larger v8 + 8 speed and a little better gas mileage from what I've read. Especially if you went the ls460 route. Summer time i was getting 17-19 city mid 20's highway in my 430 so not terrible.

I just got a GS450h a couple weeks ago as a loaner finally and noticed this too... Talked to my bro about it and he mentioned that it has to do with the electric motors so Lexus does not allow TC to be fully turned off to protect them. After driving that, I honestly had very little fun in the 450h compared to my 460, mainly due to that fact... I have raced a 450h in the past and actually did get the opposite (the 450h smoked me off the line, but then the high end of the 460 overtook). Maybe your friend had bad gas or something... And with my comments about not having as much fun in the 450h, not trying to bash any of you guys that have them. Just my personal preference as I like feeling the car shift gears and being able to roast some rubber every once in a while... And I of course have to be biased to the 460...

You will for sure get better gas mileage with the 8 speed... I just took a trip to Colorado from St. Louis, and was averaging between 30 and 33 mpg cruising around 75-85 mph. I love it!

I have had the same experience... My 460 easily walked away from the 430. A couple 350's I raced stayed with me much longer than the 430 and it really wasnt until the higher speeds that I started walking away from the 350's... Those are some mean little V6's!

Amazing, 350 and 430 run neck and neck. both 14.3-14.4 in quarter. Thats a bad *** v6.

But I love the sound and torque of a V8. Will be looking at a 460 in a year or two.

Thanks for input.

No, and he let off at 140mph.

I'll take that Pepsi Challenge.

HOLY CRAP THE GS450H IS FAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I played both video's twice the GS450h had at least 30 kilimeters more at all times on the gs460. They didn't lie with a statement ' V8 power with a 4 cyl economy"

Sounds Fun... The 450h and 460 are very close matches by far, but I think the 460 has the edge by a hair....

The 460 would be better if it had better shift points. Better programing to use that 8 speed.

Reason why I liked the 430 better, is the way it holds shifts. The 460 seems like it was getting confused by its own gears.

As far as the 450h vs a 460. My roll-on is insane. I do not have to downshift though 3-4 gears to reach a (passing gear) I floor it at 50mph. My ICE 3.5L goes full power to the wheels, while the Aisin e-traction motor goes full 200kW to the wheels. My only lapse or pause in power is when the planetary in the CVT kicks from low to high, You can see this happen when the 450h in the video hit 120kmh. GSh's feel like the hand of god is pushing them down the road.

460's on the other hand have to shift through a sea of gears now. Too bad Lexus doesn't have a way to add the valve body from an ISF. Then the shifting would be much faster. More abrupt.

I like the 460's, but wish they had a little (Drive like a ***-hat) button to make everything faster and less refined.

Absolutely agree with you here.... I never take Pwr Mode off and drive my car very aggressive, so my car has adapted to me very well. I feel my car is very responsive when shifting now, but it could definately be better. I can't say that my car gets confused on the gears, but agree there are alot of gears to go through, although I love the MPG's it gives me when I am cruising.

After driving the 450h, I know what you mean by the car never loosing power, but I LOVE the feeling of my car dropping 2-3 gears and just absolutely punching you against the seat... It's really more of a "fun factor" for me...

I also wish Lexus didn't de-tune the 4.6 as much as they did... IMO, they should have just left it identical to what is in the LS's!

Very good debate BTW...

This should be a huge goal of the tuners, is to get the software cracked for these cars.

Its nothing to reprogram a MB, BMW, AUDI and get more power. Hell you can blast out almost 45whp out of a VW GTI with just a intake and remap of the ECU. I understand why, but hate Toyota for de-nutting these cars so severely.

I'm still on my goal to find out how to get all the torque out of the FR2 electric motor and trans in my car. I know its undercut severely.

When you actually see the size of the emotor in a Tesla, its shocking how small it is in regards to the amount of torque and HO it puts out.
