Default GS350 Fuel Tank Capacity

The manual states 18.7 gal (71L, 15.6Imp. gal)
I filled the tank to the max, drove until the warning light comes on and a bit more. The computer calculated range is 4miles before I refill. By this time, I've driven 310miles on the tank.
When I refill at the gas station, I'm only putting about 15.4gallon.
So my question is, did I drove my fuel tank all the way down and go by the 15.6Imp. gal rating? Or is there a 3gallon of reserve left that the computer did not account for making the fuel tank a 18.7gal capacity?

when the light came on, that mean you still got 2 or 3 gallons left

your car doesnt take into account the reserve. there was a thread a long time ago about members pushing the range limit and many have gone well passed the 0 mile range mark.

So the tank is a 15.6 gallon tank then?

I recently traveled 529 miles on a tank (all freeway). I calculated 29.9MPG the old fashion way (mileage divided by gallons of gas purchased at fill-up. FWIW...the DIC had my mpg at 30.0). Put in 17.7 gallons (the last 45 miles was nerve racking staring at that darn indicator light). Therefore capacity is at least 17.7 gallons and I do believe the 18.8 capacity as stated is correct. There's no 'reserve' capacity. That's a fallacy. Light goes on about 2.5 gallons prior to empty.

BTW, it's a foolish thing to consistently wait until you're at 1/4 of a tank or less. You damage the fuel pump.

hmmm...that doesn't make any sense then. Because the pump is only charging me for 15.4gallon.

15.4 gallon you pumped in, but the are still about 2 gallons reserves in the tank when the light on your dash comes on

Hi Rominl,
I guess I'm following your track. I've been on the Acura-Zine forum for over 10 years now Lexus forum.
The light came on for a while. The gauge is almost at the bottom of the tick. Can it go beyond that?
Anyway, so the tank capacity is 18.7 gal and not that 15.6 number.
I have a habit of using the fuel all the way down. I've been doing this with my TL-S for almost ten years and there was no fuel pump issue with it.

The arrow doesnt go below LOW point, but when the light comes on you still have 2-3 gallons in reserve. Its k to take it to the light before fill up you won't damage fuel pump, but make sure not to drive too long on the light. Lets say the fuel gauge has 1-10 1 being on the light and 10 being full. The calculation from 1-10 is the 15.5 gallons of gas, so when the arrow is at 1 you still have 2-3 gallons but the gauge won''t go below 1. Hopefully u understand

the light gone on that just give you signal the gas almost empty. It doesnt mean nomore gas, so yes it will be 2 or 3 gallon left

i have gone below "0 range" once and some people posted they drive 30 miles after 0 range and still got gas left. not saying it's good though

thread revival... I have a gs430... i believe the fuel tank is rated about the same size... i always push the limits on my gas tank because i'm lazy to refill on gas... i always push it well past when it says I have 0 miles left... seems the gas light always comes on after using about 13-14 gallons... Last night i drove it till the car was about to be out of gas... when you step on the gas, you can feel little skips in the throttle... i knew it was about to be out of gas because i actually ran out of gas on my last car and it did the same thing before dying out... lucky there was a gas station just right there.. My tank filled up at approx 17.1 gallons....

that's a good way to potentially damage your fuel pump
