Default 2006 GS300 Wheel Question

Hi, I have a 06 GS300 with the 17" 10 spoke alloy wheels. I would like to put some GS350 18" 5 spoke wheels on my car and based on what I have read the 18's will fit perfectly w/out any mod or spacers, correct?

Also, what about the TPMS, if the seller does not include the TPMS with the 18", will the TPMS from my 17's fit the 18's and work? Or vice a versa, if the seller does include the TPMS with the 18's will the TPMS function as needed with my car

Thanks.

Since this is a topic similar to what i was going to bring up, i'll ask here. I can swap 17" rims that i have on my GS400 onto this car with no problem? I really hate asking this but TPMS is tire pressure measuring system? Is that a separate item or is it built in? Sorry for such a n00b question.

It's a separate item. Like a secondary valve stem. You can have it installed into the new wheel that way you don't get an alarm/error code.

Default Help

Guys I'm back on this topic. Today I bought new 18" GS350 chrome wheels with tires an TPMS off a private seller.

The seller said I have to remove the TPMS from my 17" wheels and put them on the 18" wheels. Because if I don't and mount the 18" as is I will have to have the dealer reprogram the TPMS system to recognize the sensors on the 18"s. Is this correct because if I have to swap sensors its going to cost me an addtional $35 per wheel times 8 wheels to do this .

No need to swap sensors. All you need to do is get them re-programmed because our cars can "memorize" 2 sets of TPMS. Either go to Discount Tire or Lexus dealership and they should be able to help you. I've had DTire do this for me for no cost.

direct tire can and will pull the sensor info for you, just write it down. Whatever they do it doesnt work. None of the IL members I know of have had this work. You drive away and your light is off but it trips again. My local Lexus dealer always did it for free for me and I swapped rims and sensors like crazy leaving them in my rims when I would sell them. For some reason Lexus doesnt have the tool to pull the sensor info they would have to remove the tire to gather the info.

Thanks guys. I was driving by keyes lexus so stopped in to ask. The service guy asked what car the 18's came off and I said 2008 GS350, his response was "the TPMS would likely not be compatible with my 06" system. But he said he would charge me $130 to swap tires and try to do the TPMS reprogram but if it doesn't work it may cost $200 to make it work. I walked away! I will visit a different dealer, lol, gotta love these little projects

Well the wheel swap is done! I had it done at Longo Lexus inlcuding programming the new
18's TPMS for an estimnated cost $165. Lucikily, I was able to use a $75 discount coupon I had so $90 bucks to get this done and a free car wash to boot! LOL.

Now on to trying to sell my 17's.

Thanks for all the in put guys!

So if i swap my 17" OEMs for aftermarket 17s, i can take out the sensors from one and into the other? If i had to buy the sensors, i need one for each tire? Each one is over 100bucks! And another stupid question here: what's the info you get from the sensor? Just tire pressure/puncture info? Are the nondescript buttons on the pulldown menu on the left of the steering wheel the ones that you press to get such info?

Thanks in advance.

gtmax, I will let the other experts answer your questions, because I am a newbie myself.

I know the TPMS sensor notifies you when air pressure in one of the tires is low. There are two warning lights that appear on your cluster/dash.

yah you can take out your oems and put them in the new wheels, no prob.
you dont have to buy new ones from lexus...look on ebay you can set a used set of 4 for under 100, make sure they are oem brand tho (pacific, I believe)
nah the sensors dont give you that type of info...just a light goes on in your dash if your low on air pressure (doesnt give u an actual pressure readout tho) OR if there is a malfunction (say a broken sensor) a warning will come on.

Also most 06+ and up lexus and toyotas use the same sensor...so a camry sensor will also work on your gs, etc

Looks like this thread went from wheels to TPMS
Can I get it back to wheels?
I put some 2006 GS400 wheels (19" 5-spoke) on my 2006 GS300 (had the chrome 10-spoke).
1. Will that change my speedometer/mileage meter due to different overall size?
2. Is it possible that the ball joints won't handle the larger wheels?
I say this because now that I've had the 19" wheels on there I'm beginning to hear the dreaded bumping noise from the front end when going over small bumps in the parking lot.

Thoughts ? ? ??? ?
