Default Anything Wrong With Using 75W-90 Gear Oil?

I'm going to replace the gear oil in both front and rear diffs with my next oil change. Lexus calls for 75W-85 gear oil and since there is only one other brand I can find in those specs, I was wondering if anyone has used Royal Purple or Mobil 1 75W-90 in their AWD GS before? If so, any issues?

The reason I ask is $33/Liter is the best price I can find for the Toyota branded 75W-85 while I can get Mobil 1 75W-90 for less than $10.

Thanks

http://lexus.sewellparts.com/accesso...2007/4373.html Make an account and you will get a CLublexus discount which would come out to $25. I was actually wondering the same thing if you can actually use the mobil one but not sure . It is a minor difference compared to the OEM but who knows how **** the car is to minor differences.

I've got the same opinion regarding minor differences causing unknown affects. Seems like a nice revenue stream for Toyota to establish exclusive gear oil specs.

Thanks for the CL discount, I appreciate the tip.

They are interchangeable. I've been using 75W90 M1 for years in Toyota Truck differentials that were spec'd for 75W85 with zero issues.

It's 75W-90 spec for the GS300 I think? Or did they change that?

I recently flusehd the front and rear diff's on my '09 GS350 AWD and used Mobil1 75w90. No issues to date. I wouldnt worry about it. The Mobil 1 is full synth so it'll protect as well at the Toyota gear oil, if not better.
PS. After you're done can you tell me if the front diff plugs were on super tight? I ended up stripping the front drain and plug bolts because they were damn near WELDED in place; I had to buy new bolts. What the hell is the factory torque settings for those things?!
