Check VSC and Check Engine Light - No, it's not the Gas Cap.........
#16
New to Lexus and SC430 - same issue
So I’ve had my SC for almost 2 weeks. Bought off eBay but AutoCheck seemed good. Thought I got a good deal.
Had to clean MAF and Throttlebody to fix some response/acceleration issues along with changing air filter.
Have had cel and vsc lights come on - ordered new gas cap. Tried to “patch” it temporarily by putting a little grease around the gas cap o-ring - worked for a few miles.
Today drive it to work (~108 miles) no problem, on drive home however......
First noticed my battery light intermittently turning on and off (along with TPMS but I assume separate issue)
Was driving down interstate and all of a sudden my cruise control stopped responding- couldn’t cancel
After a few miles down the road, cel and vsc lights pop on again
Followed closely by abs light
Then all of the sudden the brake light comes on
This followed by the rest of the dash lights lighting up the inside of my car
Then panic really set in when my dash gauges (speedo, tach, fuel, etc) went dead.
Luckily by exit ramp and here I sit waiting for tow truck as I’m typing this.
If OP or anyone else for that matter has figured out what causes this, I’d be interested to know.

A little added to my previous post
So while waiting for tow truck, I was reading through CL a little more. One poster stated they were able to restart car after a few minutes. Me too. But not long after dash lights on again. I decided to let engine idle just to see what would happen. Gauges zeroed out again. Then all of the sudden, lights flashing and bells dinging. Think I’ll leave it off and patiently wait for tow truck.
On on a side note. Thank you to all CL posters and those that contribute to this site. Hopefully I’ll get all the bugs worked out soon. Have learned a lot on this site.
