think im going to pull the trigger on some rims
i have a 06 gs300 and im thinking about getting this rim & tire package
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=190553472066
I live in new jersey & was going to have these shipped from cali. This is the first set of rims ive ever ordered online before. Any advice on what i should be telling the seller. For instance should i be telling him a certain offset, do i need a certain spacer, etc.
Do any of you guys think this is a good deal on the package ?

its ok. you cant tell him a certain offset because the wheels your buying are 20x8.5 with a 35mm offset. you have to tell him what tire size you want which imo none of those are really ideal.
you'll more than likely need to order hub rings along with new lugs. stock lugs do not work with aftermarket wheels.

What I really want is a staggered setup like this....Im still a little foggy on the offset thing. I cant really figure out if you can use any offset....or is there a set offset for the vehicle.....or if the offset is something people prefer.
Am i rite in saying the more offset the further the rim sits outside the wheel well & vice versa ? for instance +35 sits futrther out than a +18

the wheels you posted are not staggered. the wheels you posted are (4) 20x8.5 with a 35mm offset.
vice versa on offsets. the higher the number the further in the wheel sits. if you have a +35mm offset that means from the center of the wheel to the mounting surface (hub) sits 35mm towards the face of the wheel. if you have +18mm that means your only going out from the center of the wheel 18mm towards the face thus making the wheel sit out further.
heres a diagram and link explaining offsets

i understand the diagram but still wouldnt know if someone was trying to sell me a setup that had +48 offset would it be too much or to little because without seeing it im just guessing on how it would look. But if i knew what offset is flush with the fender i could figure out if its going to stick out to much or not enough.
Is there a base number that is flush with the fender ? for instance lets say @ +35 its flush with the fender to me that would mean any movement up or down i can kinda figure out how far in or out the setup will be
So how do you know if you have to much or to little offset without seeing it on the car ?

it all depends on the width of the wheel too. keep in mind the offset is determined from the center of the wheel width wise. its a little complicated to figure out at first but you can use programs like the offset calculator to determine how the wheel will sit.

i agree with designo. If you are going to plan on spending that much on wheels, might as well spend more and do it right through a vendor, or even check the classified section on the forums. you might catch a better deal. Vendors will treat you right, the last thing they would need is a bad rep on the forum from a bad experience and the same goes for established members selling in the classifieds. if the sale goes bad on ebay, you will spend more time with headaches and more time without wheels also.
