Oils (Amsoil?)
This thread could go on for months for sure!
I own an 07' as well and have always used Mobil 1 myself. I was never a believer in all those "snake oils", no pun, but started using Amsoil in my Dodge diesel and have seen improvements in mileage and quietness. Am thinking about trying it out in the GS but dont know yet. Still cant believe one can go 10k+ miles without an oil change! Their data certainly speaks wonders for itself but always skeptical of this stuff. Anyone out there use any Amsoil in their Lexus?

The car burns oil and I add about 1 quart every 4k miles.

An old thread indeed, but I am partial to the Pennzoil Platinum Synthetics. Inexpensive (especially with the rebate) and you aren't going to do better. From what I understand they are excellent at cleaning pistons, which could stop oil burn. The HM options also help seals. The oil is made from natural gas condensate, which supposedly is very superior.
With a 5k oci though you are probably safe to use anything that meets spec.

I've always been a lurker of the BITOG forums.
I use redline oil. 5w-20 to be exact (130k mi I believe, no oil burn, no issues at all since the first time i've done it at 60k mi).
