'06 gs300 hub assembly failure?
My wife and I just purchased a beautiful '06 GS300. She puts about 30K miles a year on a car so we found one with higher miles with an excellent history to save a few bucks. Car has 104K miles and sounds like the front hub assemblies are growling. Noticable at all speeds. Pretty sure it's not the sipped Toyos. We are going to schedule an appointment at Lexus of Portland, just wondering what I should expect to pay for both front Hub assemblies.
Thanks...........Crab

Thanks for the reply. I have an appointment the 17th for a 105K scheduled maintenance and check up. If $400 a side makes the noise go away, it would be worth it. We have a V70R AWD and that's about what the assemblies run, so no shocker.

My right side hub started ticking at around 60,000 miles and was replaced under warranty. They noted on the invoice that it was due to the boot being malformed allowing water penetration.
I had a ford in the past that had bearings go bad at around the same mileage so I think going over 100,000 miles before having problems is pretty good. You'll want them replaced for more than getting rid of the annoying noise. If the bearings seize altogether you can rip the front end of the car right off.

Bearings all checked out. Lexus of Portland says it's the new tires. Sounds like a wing seat on a 737 Anybody have any suggestions on a good performing QUIET tire or some sort of insulation fix?

I have the same issue. The noise is coming from the front of the car, I don't think it's bearings. However, I bought brand new tires and tried Bridgestone Turanzas first, but new tires added rumbling noise at the lower speed (around 45 mph)... so I switched to Michelin Pilot Sport A/S and the noise seems to be not as loud, but it's not as quiet as I would expect... I would guess it's AWD or I need to drive another GS AWD and compare... (I drove 2010 ES loaner and it was much more quiet)

Well, I'm back. I don't drive my wifes car very often, but did last night when we went to see Cheech and Chong in concert. And no, I wasn't smoking anything. Absolutly deafening and don't see how she can stand to drive it. My description of the wing seat on a twin engine prop plane is very close to the sound. It's NOT the tires like Lexus tried to tell me 5K miles ago. Has to be warped rotors, bad hub assemblies or front differential bearings or joints. Also eating oil......about 2 quarts of 5-30 full synthetic in 5K miles. What the hell Lexus??
