hmm, so from my understanding ALL lexus do this right? not just the newer models?

I can tell you that my '99 2GS was definitely real wood... I can't vouch for ALL models.

but on another note

i wonder how they did the wood in my 2GS SD (black wood)

Just a different color stain... I know the 2GS is real wood because mine started discoloring.

funny how i just happened to see this from this guy,if he would have searched in the 2nd gen section they have AT LENGTH discussions about the wood in the 2nd gen GS and how it IS real wood

My 99 4runner even has real wood. A lot different in look/feel but under a super thick clear coat there is a thin layer of wood. My door piece, the clear peeled off. Well chipped then peeled off. Now a question is how about a small hole that was drilled in the center piece of the Lexus? I'm not having good luck finding a used replacment piece near me at the junk yards and getting really annoyed with it by my shifter.
