No, not needed. I would think rain water hitting it would be less harmful then being sand/rock blasted on a dry day.

After installing 10mm spacers on my car, I think I need them cause there's a lot of dirt that's being splattered on my rear side.

my opinion don't worry about it your hood probably gets hit more than your rear wheels, I just don't like them but if you do you could probably check ebay for some.

I wouldn't paint it cause I would think overtime it would diminish and you would probably see it. You should look for a hard plastic surface if you want to paint it.

imo i think splash guards look ugly. rain will not hurt the car. like someone else said, you'll end up having more damage on your front end from debris flying up then you will the back of your car.

I am only concerned about the area behind the wheels and the sandblast effect many cars suffer in that area . My sons new Lancer gts is already in need of paint behind the rear wheels due to this in everyday driving . Just wondering if these cars are in need of that protection in that area , before I get the car out in day to day service .

I personally think its a waste of money, you're probably just going to end up scratching what you put those things on to protect in the first place. Ever take mud guards off a car that came with them like a year later? Its all scuffed up and scratched underneath from the rocks/dirt that collects under the surface where they mount. To me it seems counter intuitive. Instead of ugly looking mudguards, i would think it would be better to just apply a small sheet of 3M clear bra in that area.

Install is simple , but I do like the 3m idea also , painted guards are nearly $300 . I'm going to observe the car and see if anything is needed (why I posted in the first p[lace) and probably go with the 3m stuff . Its stupid to let a cars finish get chiped up .

I think thats exactly what people want to avoid , repainting . Very expensive and the risk of not matching perfect and killing resale value . A protected car is seen by most as a babied, well taken care of car .
