Lifting up the windshield wipers!

Hi guys,

Ever since getting the car new from the dealer, I have noticed that the windshield wipers scrape against the hood when lifted.

The guy who washes my car has a habit of lifting the wipers when cleaning the windshield, and scraping the paint off the edge of the hood.

Is this normal?

I know that lifting the windshield wipers upright on most cars is possible. This is the first time I see this.

Let me know guys, so I can deal with this issue with the dealer if not normal.

Thanks

are all lexus designed this way?

you can manually move them up along the windshield to put them in the "snow" position (about 2-3" higher up resting postion on the glass) and then lift the blade off the glass to clean. Details are in the owners manual ;)

^ hm.. didn't know we could move them manually... i read the manual too.. (well mostly, not all :D)

Mine is like that too, I always just assumed that the wipers were put on a bit out of wack and I had meant to one day take them off and correct it.

I guess they're supposed to be that way... though I read the manual pretty thoroughly I thought and I don't remember any mention of that.

So, is there a switch inside the car to move it to the snow position???

no, you just grab it and force it up its normal arc a few inches. I always do it from the passenger side and it feels odd, but snaps into the second position without too much drama.

Lifting Windshield WipersNo

No Switch! You grab the base of the arm on the wiper and pull upward on it toward the roof. Do not pull forward. It will snap/lock into the winter/snow position. To put back in the summer mode do the procedure in reverse. Your salesperson should have gone over this with you when you took delivery. My salesperson went over every function available on the car, even though I told them I knew how to do most of the functions as my wife previously had a Lexus. Guess some dealers do not give much service after the sale.

For a Lexus you would think they would of fixed it before putting them on the market..

Fixed? It's a 'feature' ;)

i also didnt know about that "feature" either...it is a lil odd though...my 1993 GS300 had a switch that moved the wippers between the two settings...

I tried to lift up towards top of windshield ( snow mode ), it doesn't budge! I don't wanna break anything!

WTF???

i believe they mean to pull the whole arm vertically (even the part that does not pivot) towards the top of the winshield. it should lock into place.
