They have already replaced my "Right side headlight" twice already, due to the bad ballast; fortunately my toy is still under warranty.

Lexus does not sell only the OEM ballast by itself, so you would have to purchase the whole headlight housing ($1,2xx+). So the alternative is purchase either from the junk yard or eBay... Orz...

I would like to get it warrantied by the dealership but the bad thing is that, I bought the car from a supervisor at our local lexus dealership. He sold it to me privately because he had dark tint on it and could not sell it through the dealership like that. I bought the car with after market bulbs already installed so does that put me out of the warranty?

Sounds like a common problem. It happens to me now, passenger side headlight turns off itself after about 10 min. had to turn off and turn back on to get it to work, but then the light turns off again ... a few min. later. Car has 40K, '08 GS460. Not trying to switch out the bulb yet? Do i need to bring to the dealer to replace the whole headlight assy. before the warranty is out? Input please.

theres nothing wrong with the headlight itself. i would swap the bulbs and see if the problem still exist with the passenger side. if so then its probably the ballast

Is it possible to just get a whole new HID kit from somewhere and just install that into the existing headlights? Im still kinda noob to this stuff so from my understanding (based on my old car) I was able to buy an HID kit, and install a new ballast and bulb into it with no problems plug and play.. Noticed almost everyone here only does bulbs. Is there a reason for that?

This is happening to me occasionally as well. Right hand side dipped headlight goes out and can be 'reset' by flicking the switch. 06MY GS300.

Default ballast?

My GS300 had the same issue but on the driver's side. My regular mechanic said he thought it was the ballast. I went to the dealer cause I had some recall work and they said to change the lamp. They charged me $170 for the lamp so I felt burned. I have not had any problems with the headlight so it may not have been a ballast problem.

fyi ...if it is the factory ballast, you cant just buy a new ballast you have to buy a whole new head light which cost 1700$....trust me i just went through this.....good thing I was in car accident and didn't have to pay a cent

New bulbs worked for me when it happened (so far).

What I didn't like was that there is absolutely no dashboard indication that your lamps have failed to light.

+1.

The seats will heat and cool your butt, you can talk to the car, it's got surround sound...............but it won't tell you when a bulb has blown!

In the past, on other brands of cars, when a light burns out, the turn signal will blink faster on the side that has a light burned out. I assume Lexus didn't use this technique?

I got the headlight apart and removed the OEM ballast from below as you guys said but how the heck do you get that fat socket head out of the headlight? There's just simply no room to navigate the big xenon bulb plug housing out of the headlight? am I missing something

lol, be glad it doesn't, otherwise, our HID fog lights would throw off an indicator light everytime we turn on the lights (we'd need a resistor or something extra i believe)
