Default Shipping tires

Looks like I got a buyer for my run-flat Michelin PS2s, however I have to ship to Ohio. After doing a detailed quote on the phone UPS is quoting me $48 including insurance and pickup which seems like a good price.

I take it insurance is key in case the buyer claims they were damaged during shipping?

Also does anyone have any advice on how to package the tires? UPS guy said cover them in tape and a label, but what kind of tape?

I would check USPS also. They are usually less expensive and do a much better job IMO.

But what kind? The shrink wrap I have in my kitchen to wrap up sandwiches would get destroyed wrapping a car tire.

Sorry if this is a silly question, but I've never shipped tires before.

My tires which got shipped across the border from discount tire were strapped together in pairs and taped with packing tape. They weren't completely covered. They arrived just fine, I think it was UPS.

u can get some shrink wrap from any warehouse supply store or U-Haul. they're big roll and about 1 1/2 feet wide shrink wrap.

They are shipping them from my Lexus dealer who will swap out the tires to the tire shop of the buyer who is receiving them. UPS apparently does a daily pickup at the Lexus dealer so they aren't charging for the pickup. Should be a simple door-to-door deal.

Lexus dealer agreed take car of the shipping without charging me for handling as long as I provide whatever packaging material I want to use and give them a pre-paid shipping label. UPS said label is $48 for size and weight of my tire set.

So basically I just need to give the dealer whatever packaging plus a label.

Thanks J. That's what I will do. Standard packaging tape as in the brown stuff you use on cardboard boxes?

I'd suggest calling our CL vendor "the UPS Store" to see if they can get you a discount and/or give you any shipping advice.

i have shipped quite a few tires. this is how i do it....

shrink wrap them together then band them. print 3 labels. 1 on each tire and 1 in center. So if they ever come apart (not sure how they would, but just in case) there is a label on each one.

How Mike did it above seems like the way to go. If you don't have straps, you can use some strong tape. Along with the shrink wrap you should be good to go. Also, putting the labels inside the wrap AND outside is a really good idea just in case one is lost or damaged.
