GS350 V6 vs. GS450 V8

I've driven both and I have a GS460. I do think it is worth the extra 5grand. It's not just the significantly higher torque and hp, but the gem is the 8 speed transmission from the LS. The LS transmission is probably the smoothest auto in the world (and I say this having driven the most recent S-class and 7 series models.
Also if you live in an area with limited speed restrictions you will love doing 125mph at 1700rpm. Also the acceleration from 60-100 is incredibly fast which makes it much better for slicing through traffic on 2 or 3 lane highways.

Not to mention the fact the the leather used in the 460's is much better and softer than that in the 350's... They use the semi-aniline leather as they do in the LS's. Also, if you are ok with buying used, you can get the 460 for about the same as you can get the 350. I bought mine from a different dealer for about $500 less than what a Lexus dealer was trying to sell me a GS350 for with higher miles at that....

the 8 speed is also a plus to make it ride quieter and softer, another noticeably difference between the 350 and 460
ty, power wise i don't think the gs460 make sense. if it's the same 380hp engine from the ls460, then yes, that will totally justify it. but the current 342, not so much. don't get me wrong though, it's still different. after all, it's v8, the tq curve is just completely different.
i used to own gs400, sc430, and ls460l. i was very used to the low end tq of the v8. going into the gs350, it really took me some time to get used to it. it doesn't mean the gs350 isn't fast, if i really push it, the gs350 can do a lot of things, but it's no v8. but worth the extra to go for v8? well, obviously i didn't do that.

"In addition to the changes made on all 2008 GS models, the GS 460 adds semi-aniline leather trim and ventilated front seats as standard luxury features."
I tried looking on my sticker and nothing really points out semi-aniline, but I know mine does have it as I have compared to my brother IS350 and my parents ES350. Mine is much softer and natural looking.

I guess one other thing that is somewhat of a downside for getting the GS460 is the limitation of mods available for it. I'm guessing because the 460 is somewhat of a limited make, no one really takes the time to R&D their products for it. Granted, alot of the parts made for the 350 will work, there are some that won't.

Everywhere I have read states close to the following:

Agreed, it pisses me off that Lexus de-tuned the 460 from the LS and didn't just leave it at the 380 HP, but... the torque is very noticeable. If I were to buy a GS brand new... I can't say for certain if I would fork out the extra 5k just for 40 hp more , 2 extra gears, and better leather, but like I said above, it was a no brainer when I was able to find the 460 at the same price as a GS350 which had more miles at that.
