Default Knocking noise when pressing accelerator

What up fellas, I just switched from a 2Gen to a 3gen recently, but I notice a knocking noise when I press on the accelerator. Now i know it's something like a lifter is tapping or something like that. I know a little about cars but not that much. Can anyone help me figure this out? I was told I just need to change my oil but it seems like I need to do more... Thanks in advance.

I have heard the same noise 2 or 3 times. Its usually closer to red line. sounds like valves. I mentioned it to my service rep ( one of the best in the business) and he said its probably cheap gas. I stuck with shell and mobil as opposed to circle K etc and have not heard it since

Saying that you have a "3GS" is not saying a lot. Does it have the 2GR-FSE, 3GR-FSE, or 1UR-FSE engine? At what RPM does this happen?

Sorry my internet was down for a while. It's the 3GR-FSE, and it's very noticeable between 2k-4k RPMs.

Cheap gas may be the problem. What octane gas do you use? It may be just pinging form bad gas. This happened to me before in a previous car. Tried to use 87, but it called for 91. The engine starting pinging on acceleration then I switch to 91 and it never happen again.

Sounds like your hearing "engine knock" which which is caused by advanced engine timing, cylinder compression and low octane. Most gas on the market today has 10% or more ethonal added to it and this doesn't help. These engines have higher compression and need the higher octane gas. Engine knock will destroy the engine so if this is what you are hearing, I advise you to back off the accelerator when you hear it and buy better fuel.

I've been using only 91 since I've had the car but i still get the knocking. The only gas stations i go to are Shell, and BP, should I try something else? I was told they have the best gas to use.

I hear the knocking every time, all the time. When i go from a dead stop to only 10 MPH i can hear it.

You may need a valve job.

Could it be injector clicking?

I've been experiencing a similar problem. I have a 99 Sc300 automatic, with about 150,000 on the motor. I always allow the car to warm up for about 10 to 15 mins whenever i drive. But while im driving, when the rpm's are between 1800-2000 and my speed builds to 20-25 mph. I can hear a small bell tone (ie: ting ting ting) that sounds like it's coming from the interior radio. What could this be? I asked a mechanic who's a friend of the family and he said to change the oil every 3,000 miles. I don't drive the car hard and mainly use it for commuting. It's been bugging the crap out of me. Is it worth while to fix or sell the car?

I have always noticed that these engines are rather noisy they all have ticking idle, as far as engine knock i have a slight lifter tap every blue moon upon start up. I run full synthetic oil and believe that this helps however hopefully one day Lexus will step up and make it a recall campaign to correct the issues that are widely known and discussed amongst many Lexus owners,
