Default Shipping Wheels?

I am selling my 17" OEM wheels from my GS 350 in the classified section here on CL. I have never shipped wheels. Can anyone with experience let me know the best way to ship wheels. FedEx ground? UPS? other? Any suggestions and price estimates would be appreciated.

DON'T USE FEDEX OR UPS, go to freightquote.com and talk to someone there you'll be charged an arm and a leg going through UPS or FEDEX. depends on where being shipped. it needs to be shipped by freight and you need to protect the rim during shipment, probably put some cardboard in the front of the rim, I used ceran wrapping.

to me i always use ups ground (fedex is really expensive). a lot of times they have those big 25x25x25 boxes where you can put two wheels in. with packing and stuff, iirc, shipping a set is like 170 or 180 bucks. i always let out all the air as well, surprisingly, it make a bit difference (not a whole lot, but everything counts)

Yes, I called UPS ground. I guessed on th eweight of the rims at about 25 lbs each. Total cost for UPS ground quote was about $75-80 (plus packaging.) I figure I can box them up for about $20 and come out at about $100 for UPS ground shipping. I also contacted FedEx ground and they were pretty close to similar price. I asked UPS about "freight shipping" but it sounds like there is quite a high cost to send a "frieght truck" into a residential area to make a special p/u. In my case this would have nearly doubled the shipping costs.

It's going to cost you a lot more than $20 to properly package the wheels, unless you want the buyer to throw them away and demand his money back. You have to use plastic or bubble wrap with multiple layers of cardboard on the front of the wheels to avoid damage.

I always found FEDEX Ground to be the cheapest possible option, if you establish an online shipping account with them.
