Someone should get the diametre/number of notches for each plastic gear and try to find a metal equivilent.

Could we know how many miles/years on your car before the mirrors went out?
I like the tilt feature and think its great help to keep my rims safe. As long as it goes out before 5 yr and 50K, I am happy. Then after warranty runs out, I stop using the tilt.

It really depends on a bunch of factors. Mine went out after 10,000 miles a couple months ago. I shift into reverse a bunch of times each day though...

I got both mine changed not too long ago as well, which was covered under extended warranty. At first the problem was intermittent on the driver's side and then the same with the passenger's side. Eventually they both stopped working. Now both my mirrors tilt down when I reverse.

I am having this same problem now..... I don't understand how or why it manually can be corrected but switching from Reverse to Drive the mirrors never return to the correct location. I guess I am pushing the mirror button long enough for the gears to catch? This becomes very annoying as I reverse out my driveway daily.

I wonder if they will issue a TSB for this? I find this hard to believe that the gears could strip that easily or does anyone know how to prevent the mirrors from auto tilting? maybe pull a fuse or relay associated with engaging reverse? I dunno.

from what I understand all the gears inside the mirrors are plastic. It will wear out I'm sure lexus know that. But it's almost a sure thing that you can't wear it out within the warranty period.

Is it a fact that the gears that are at fault?
What about the motor that turns the gears?
Or the shaft the gears and motor are attached to?
I'd be more inclined to lean towards an electric motor and/or shaft issue - especially if it tilts down in reverse, but doesn't return to its previous position when taken out of reverse.

I have the same issue super annoying...This was as close as I got to those gears. Maybe I can take that spare apart.

I'm at about 30k miles on my GS and this problem has been going on for a while. When you went to the dealership did you mention a specific TSB/TSIB number?
