Exactly, its locks out the 6th gear. I think the gas mileage is worst without the 6th gear.

Not true, I've been checking the tach. All PWR mode does, it slightly delays upshift and quickens downshift.

Normal mode learns your driving habits.

Sport mode has no learning and is more responsive. I find it easier to control the car and thus mpg in sport mode.

There is no locking out of 6th gear going on in sport mode. I keep mine in sport mode all the time.

The one thing I don't like with the transmission is the tendancy to drop into first gear. I'm training myself to switch to snow mode when I expect that to happen so that I override the car.
