i'm currently on the stock dunlop run flats. don't know if they're the original or they've been replaced once (i bought the car used when it had 37k miles on it)

i've had the low tire pressure indicator come on before, and that time one of the tires was significantly flat at a psi of 25-26. i've had the tire patched since.

then the tire went flat again recently, and i inflated it to 33-34, while the others are at around the recommended 31 (i think this is the recommendation), but the indicator will still not go away. will the low tire pressure lighit come on when there is too much air in one of the tires? what exactly does it look for?

 

33, I think, is what it wants. Maybe the gauge you're using is reading them wrong and they are all lower than you think. Also, it's cold now, so especially if you're checking this while you're garaged it may be much colder outside ... and you may get the warning light after parking outside for a few hours. You can either check tire pressure and fill while it's outside and cold, or overfill while inside and warmer to compensate.

I've often wished that the system was one of the types that would tell me the actual readings from individual tires.

 

I dont know about run flats, never had those. But I was always getting that warning light whenever the pressure dropped to 33 - 34. Inflating all 4 tires to 36 solved my problem

 

Not sure if it is the case where you are..but sometimes if it is cold outside the low tire pressure light comes on - but it goes off after driving for a few miles and the tires heat up.

 

well, i park in an indoor garage both at work and at home. it's been 45 to 50 degrees in my home garage, which is where i checked the pressure after it had sat there for over 12 hours.

so perhaps today i'll inflate before leaving work all four tires to around 35 and see if it goes away on the drive home.

 

I dont know about you guys, but I set my normal tire pressure to be 31-32 psi with my Michelins and so my TPMS has been re-setted not to go off until below 30 PSI. I prefer it that way so I never get that warning light with the tire pressure i have now since 33-35 PSI with the tire I have now is a bit stiff. 31-32 is smooth and perfect for me.

 

how did you set it?

 

I believe the sensors kick on if the pressure goes below 32 psi. if you want to rest the number, you need to have the dealer do it.

look under the dash by the knee airbag there is a button under there for the TPMS... i tink u turn the car on set parking brake and hld the button for a few seconds to set it.... but make sure you have your tires at proper tire pressure before you do that..

 

So it sounds like some folks have had some luck in that when they get new tires and wheels without the TPMS, no light comes on, while others do get the warning. Is that a correct assumption?

I'm planning on getting new wheels and tires to, but debating spending the extra 2-300 dollars for the install of the sensors. I really don't need them, since I can easily check the tire pressure every month and even "eye" them for blatant leaks.

Just trying to see what most folks are seeing...my car is an 2006 GS RWD, and I have SC 18's with the TPMS sensors in them now.

 

I've let my tires drop to 29psi before. No alarms.

I would rather I never get an alarm as I check my tires monthly. The only sensor I'd like to have on my tires is one that can detect when my tire blows out and then immediately kicks in a system that repairs or replaces that flat tire ala the movie "Demolition Man"

 

I had a problem today , the warning light can on and the hazard light came on also . I check the tire pressure and it was 40 psi . But I have a big knot in one of the front tires right now . What should I do ? I have run flat right now , what should I get another run flat or a regular tire ?
