Default Car Washes at Dealership?

i understand that many of you fellow GS owners do a lot of maintenance on a DIY basis, or perhaps take it to a shop besides a dealership. but for those that take it to a dealership for regular maintenance work, do you guys add-on and accept the complimentary car wash from them?

i don't expect them to take care of the car like i do, but you guys have any bad experiences or recommendations AGAINST the complimentary car washes from the Lexus dealerships? scratches? swirl marks, etc?

i'm guessing they don't use microfiber towels or higher quality materials, but have any of you actually seen negative consequences as a result of the washes by the Lexus dealerships?

one word...don't.

Unlike most mechanics, who are trained and experienced, most 'detailers' are simply 20-something year old kids who think working in a dealership is cool

I agree with Kaydee. DON'T. My car was delivered (brand new) scratched badly from the carwash. I took it back to the dealership and asked them to deal with the scratches. They tried and wound up badly swirling a dark blue car. I've spent no less than 2 - 6 hour projects with my buffer trying to get the swirls and the scratches (they never got them out) out of my paint. Now it's acceptable but not perfect and i'm gettin the itch to go spend another 6 hours to see if I can finish what they started. All this because of the car wash.....

Don't, the IS after its first 5k maintenance got a chip in the back by the bumper reflectors. Too late to complain, but never again will I let them wash it.

I almost always have it done (when I'm not in a hurry). The dealership around here is very professional and the 20-something-year-old-kids you're talking about aren't allowed anywhere near the F. Never encountered a problem.

put it this way how many cars do you think they wash in a day, and do you think they take the time between each wash to clean out the mitt which they use, probably not . like they say if you want something done right you have to do it yourself.

Don't do it unless it's the service manager who does it like mine did this last time other than that I have told them no wash on my cars. They leave water stains on the car and wheels

I call the dealer wash "running it through the swirl-o-matic"...

Yeah, depends on the dealership. I say probably get to know them first and maybe the techs.

I've had enough experiences of getting my car back damaged from various places, so now I minimize as much possibility as possible, especially car washes. They simply just don't care like the owner does.

I get mine done at the delaership all of the time. I usually have them hand wash it ( per my service advisors request) because of the large wheels . I have never had any issues and trust me I am a detail freak.

I say dont worry about swirls. I wash my car every week and do have some swirls in direct sun light but I am having the car professionally detailed and they will get rid of all of that. The guys I go to are the official detailers of the Barrett Jackson car show. They have detailed 5 million dollar Ferraris, I am sure they will be great with my car
