Default Calling all Starfire Pearl owners!

Have any other Starfire Pearl owners out there had to have anything repainted??

I am going through a rear bumper cover repaint and it has been nothing short of a nightmare thus far. My body shop absolutely cannot get the color to match and every time they deliver the car to me it looks pretty much like white out instead of the original color. I am on the 4th repaint at this point and 2nd bumper because the first one was painted too many times.

Anyone having similar experiences? What was done to finally get a match??

Thanks.

it's never going to match, happened to me after someone rear ended me, i just learned to accept it

if you want absolute perfection, have them paint all the qtr panels and all the surrounding, so at least it wont' look like 2 diff colors from the side

it is difficult to get a color match, but not impossible. a reputable paint shop is required to do this, not your ordinary maaco paint shop.

your best alternative would be as whlkev suggested, paint all quarter panels and surrounding.

the bodyshop should know better, to have ur car there to compare colors, and if worse case, over paint the panels to "blend" to make a transition.

Wow. This is not encouraging at all. My next car will be a flat color.

It's not the color, its the painter.

so he has the right paint code

but his technique sucks.

that pearl paint must be a bietch

i can't imagine what mica must be like.

maybe you should repaint your car black. you can't tell color mismatch

Pretty much. The body shop owner is telling me their technique is wrong so they are bringing someone else in to paint it.

You need to go to a top notch body shop. It's all in the painters skills! Also, the blending action.

A good reason to put clear bra on, in my opinion.

Not sure I understand...? My GS was backed over a parking block which is why the bumper cover needed to be replaced and painted.

Can't you take it to the dealer to get it painted? Or can you order the bumper in that particular color? Too bad you don't have a good paintshop around, my family owns a car painting business and I used to mix paint for them, we used PPG paint which is top notch paint, and everything was measured to a tenth of a gram. I agree with Whlkev, if they can't get it right, paint the quarter panels. Painting it 4 times though?? That sucks big time.

Starfire pearl is a very difficult 3 stage paint to match. You can get very close, but it will never be completely 100% perfect unless you happen to have the whole car repainted at the same time.
