Default Am I screwed?

Hey guys,

Recently I had the right side passenger mirror cracked on my 07 GS350. I weighed my options and decided that Ebay would be the cheapest way for me to replace this. I bought the entire right side passenger mirror, not just the glass.

Problem is, this guy sent me the 2009 version with the blinker on it =(

My question is, can I just go and buy the other one off of him and it will work? I'm going to presume no... that my car would need something inside of it for that side turn signal to work, its not that easy.

Does anyone know? My guess is Im going to have to return this to this guy.

You can make it work, it's been done before. I saw a thread here with pictures, just do a search. You would have to wire the mirror blinkers in.

Interesting...

So you suggest I buy the other side then?

I was thinking of bringing this in to Lexus to do the install (no way I could do that). Do you think any autobody shop would be trustworthy enough to do it? I feel like it might be a bit complicated and having lexus do it would make more sense.

I would first find out how much the installation could cost. I suspect that if you can't to it yourself, it would be much simpler to just replace the cracked mirror glass. Unless, of course, you love the mirror blonkers and can't live without them now.

That thread had a GS with 08/09 mirrors, who knows how that guy wired them in (he never posted an install), I am sure the harness is different in the door panel, you will still have to get the signal to the door.....THIS IS BEYOND WHAT YOU WANT TO TACKLE, lexus wont do it, and I would not trust someone else with this, it is a different ball game then simply getting a shell with LEDs since those simply need the signal to be installed, swap it for the one you need....just take my word....LOL

^ I agree. unless its a direct bolt up then just get the other since you have one already. even if you don't wire up the side signals and you don't have to. I would think the plug is the same or should be easy enough to figure out. If it where me and I was in this situation I would just get the other side to match and call it a day. Keep the old ones as back up.

as for a body shop PM Joeb427, he sold his GS if everyone wasn't aware but he had a shop in NJ or NY do it on his IS and they did a good job so I know they would do it for you also. I am not in your area so I don't know anyone. What about posting in the regional section and paying one of the local members to knock it out for you? Its not that hard for someone that is good with these things. If you where close I would do it for you....You want to drive to Chicago??

Side Note:
FYI I found the turn signal relay under the drive side dash so you can tap into that if you decide to wire them up or if anyone wants the info. I would need to scan it but its right out of the Lexus Tech book

this would work if and only if the mirror had same exact harnesses as before and a separate harness for the turn signal input......I would have to think that they integrated the turn signals into the harness that exists there and if this is the case, how would you go about connecting the new mirror to the "mirror brain" in the door panel ??

^ If it where me I would snip off the connector if need be and connect it to the new mirror if its truly different. There is always a way to make it work with a wire connector and the wiring info If he gets them and needs wire info I can get that for him to do that. Lexus wont cover it under warranty so I would make them work if it where me. I am good with this stuff so this is what I would do The OP doesn't need to do this if they don't feel confident doing it. I just hate to see they paid for the one side already and be stuck with it. Not that you cant sell it on here or something but once they do that and get the new stuff eventually you have spent the same amount.

I wish the OP was closer so I could help just install.

If they where not a direct fit then I would reconsider. I assume it will match how it sits on the door and bolts on but I really dont know. If not then SELL it and just get the right ones. Also check to make sure the seller posted it correctly and if they made the error send it back and get your $$ back. These are all of your options IMO.

You can not just replace the mirror and plug it in. You will have to take the door panel off, run the extra wire for the blinker inside the car and then find and tap into the wiring harness. Then you will have to do the same thing with the othere side.

As I stated earlier, if you are not mechanically adventurous, you'll be better off with just replacing the glass.

^ I know whats involved and what needs to come off...

as for plugging the mirror in you just may be able to. its still OEM. with the mirror covers like I and eyekutr did you have to run the wire but its not that difficult to do.

Bozer ....send it back get the right one.....if you paid only $100 like you stated in the other thread, you can probably sell it for more on ebay, honestly....

Mike, I know they will bolt on the car for sure.....however, I am 99% confident you cant even get the basics of the mirror going without chopping off the existing connector....let alone the signal part....

Damn now I wish I had bought that!

Do I lose any functionality with that mirror? Like aren't they heated n' stuff?

I would love to just buy another of these 2009 turn signal ones and do it myself but theres no way in hell Im taking apart my door.

Going to order this one

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/06-07...5161QQtcZphoto

06-07 GS300 version (although I have a 350). Its probably the same as the 430 but just in case may as well play it safe.

Has anyone used these before?
