I paid for the satellite radio when I purchased my 08 GS350. I did not get the ML model. The reception is pretty poor, and instead of using the shark fin they added what looks like an antenna above the rear view mirror. Is this bad for signal strength?

Do I have the right to make them use the shark fin?

Sirius --> Ugly antenna

too many factors can contribute to bad signal strength... weather, location, local radio interference....etc

read here for more info, there is a kit you can get to utilize the Sharkfin, ugly antenna has been known for reception issue

your dealer isn't up on the latest. sirius is always a bit more iffy than xm for reception. that isn't lexus specific. but those triangle antennaes behind the rear view mirror are especially poor. in fact there were so many complaints that many dealers stopped installing them in favor of the shark fin kit or even puck antennae on trunk. both work better than what you have. have your dealer redo the antennae install. they will probably leave that thing behind your mirror even if they disconnect it.

I have XM and a black square antenna on the trunk lid.
Reception is poor only in certain places--usually where I have no cell signal.
