I wouldn't touch a Merc until their quality came back, plus they're a horrible value for the features/performance you get for the money. The new CTS's look nice, if you plan on getting rid of it after the warranty expires. Around here, everyone has Infiniti's.
Your decision has a lot to do with how long you plan on keeping the car, what you use it for (do you drive as part of your job, etc.) and what else you want/already have to drive.
Personally, if I were to spend around the same money for a car right now (translation - if I had to make the purchase over again), I'd buy a couple of year old 3-Series and a mid-80's Carrera for nice days. Of course, making that jump now would be tough since my GS has spoiled me.
I see on the poll the GS460 is doing better than the GS450H. I don't know but my opinion is that the GS460 is the GS car with no purpose in the lineup. The GS350 is the best bargain, getting almost GS460 performance for less and AWD if you like. The GS450H is the green car with pretty much the same performance as the GS460 but with a little better gas mileage. It is a little more quiet(bad for some), but has a smaller trunk, which kills it for many people. It does have a better niche. I think for the GS460 to really stand out it will need to be the "sporty" GS model, with a larger engine, and maybe a sports package.
I voted C63 and would suggest the GS450h as a second option but I know what you mean about not getting the same car as the one you are getting rid of.
I dont see how you cant consider the 535i, its what I would have now if I didnt get rid of a 530. Nothing compares to BMWs steering and handling as far as feel and connection to the road.
I was thinking about the 535 and may consider it especially if the BMW, like they do quite often, subsidize their lease on it to make it a cheaper lease. Other than that I doubt I will buy one as the 535 is more money than the GS450 and GS460 especially when optioned up. It is also not quite as fast as either also. Plus.... the other thing is that here in the NY/NJ are BMW's are so common. I would have to get the M body kit just to distinguish it from other the Bimmers.
I would go with the C63 as you will never likely see anything like it on the road. I have a tough choice in this range as it is difficult to stray from the GS, but if you already have one, why get another.
As for the 535, waste of money unloess you just love the car styling. They are about to change it and they are not that fast although it is a great engine!
I am narrowing it down to either the : C63 if I feel extravagant and have the money, the GS450H if I want to stay with Lexus and have a reasonably powerful car that saves gas, or the G37 in case I feel frugal and want to wait out the bad economy.
Of what you have on your list, the CTS-v would be the most interesting to me personally, but that's partially because of my bias toward cars with manual transmissions. Off the list the M3 sedan and the Audi RS4 would be big contenders for me...also the 550i and 535i 6MT, the latter with the Dinan flash!
Is there any reason you haven't included the Audi S6 in your list? Mid-sized luxury sport sedan with AWD and a 450+HP V10! It's on the high end of your price range here, but certainly given some of the other cars you've thrown in there (including the C63 AMG), it's not really out of range, I don't think. It's not as quick as the CTS-v or the C63, but it's as quick as or quicker than most everything else on your list.
Well the S6 is too expensive and I don't particularly like the styling of the sedans. There is a sameness to the whole sedan line. The styling of the coupes is another matter. I would love one of those, but they are in short supply now so the wait is long and the cost is high.
I had a 2006 CTS-V and let me tell you it was in the dealer more then with me. It had trouble from the Eng to the rear end and I don't think they have done any better on the new model CTS from what I have read on the cadillac owners forum.
Damn, and the CTS-V was my sleeper car. That was the car that I know will not be very common and when they can't sell the ones they have will probably discount to all hell.
