Default Drop Down LCD Screen on 2008 GS?

Hello everyone. I am new to this forum and I have learned a lot and finally decided to go with the 2008 GS350 AWD.

I got it with ML, ipod connection and a ding/scratch insurance.

Color: Silver with black interior.

I should have it on my hands this Friday.

Waht I am undecided about is if the GS is suitable to have an 8.5" or 10" drop down lcd screen. The brand is Audiobox, includes 2 wireless headfphones and a remote control. You place the dvd directly on the ceiling console.

Has anyone installed this on their GS? Will it obstruct visibility? I would not consider putting it on the headrest.

By the way, this is a unit that the dealer would install and they are charging me $1,300 for the 8.5" or $1,500 for the 10.5"

Whats your opinion?

lmfaoo! $1,500 for a 10.5 audiobox lol ripped off hahaha audiobox is a cheap brand when it comes to lcds, and $1500 wowsers too much here you get a 23" a kicker solo x and a good hiphonics amp and still have money for the club.. my advice is get the lcd off the internet then take it to a local shop "NOT LEXUS DEALER" and u'll get everything wayyy cheaper.. if you dont believe me about lexus dealer charging too much just ask them how much it is for a new battery for your key lmfaoo then compare to a local walmart ...

bamm! 15.1 and less than $450 ..wireless headphones = $40 a piece x 2 = $80 plus install tops is $200 ... $450+$80+200=730

Thanks for your quick response...but let me ask you:

If you install one of these units with someone else other than lexus?

Will it be hooked up to the ml system?

If the kids are watching a movie, will I be able to listen to the radio while they do that?

and more importantly, will a 10" or 15" screen obstruct the visibility to the rear?

If anyone has done this installation and have a picture, it wil also be a great help. I am 6'1" tall and I am wondering how this would look installed and if it iwll obstruct the view to the rear while looking to the rear view mirror.

Thanks again

Headroom is already tight in the GS with a moonroof. Depending on the thickness of the unit you plan to install, It would most likely obstruct your rear view mirror visibility. You may want to take some measurements of the unit you plan to install, or look into headrest monitors.

Thanks for all your responses. I guess I will wait to see one installed and see how it looks like.

By the way, with the features I mentioned, I was able to get the car for $48,100 after the $750 lexus discount I got in a Test Drive they had in New Jersey.

This of course, plus tax.

Again, thanks, and if there are any new ideas for the drop down screen, please, let me know.

100% agree with Flipside909 - for GS interior you need to look into the integrated headrest monitors. And, with a separate playback unit your kids will be watching it in a back while you can still listen to ML, just will have to move the sound to front speakers so they don't hear it in a back

well about obstructing view... if you planning on putting anything bigger than a 10.5 yes its gonna block visibility , and yes you can still put a flip down and hook it up to you stock ml system most local install shops are better when it comes to this since lexus dealers do everything "the legal way" such as locking your dvd player so that it only plays while parked. i dont know but i do recommend a local install shop rather than the lexus dealer.
