That's absolutely ridiculous...all the windows and sunroof have jam protection anyway...mine allows me to roll up the windows and close the sunroof...but then again I have a Middle East version.

I wonder if it is possible to order a version of this car from the factory without all the regional stupidities built in? I would still rather have a US version than a Middle East version...

Oh well...maybe there's a hack for this?

come to think about it, maybe you can help us do an experiment. with the car shut off and windows rolled down, use the key fob to roll up all the windows by pressing on the lock button (i suppose) while putting your hand in the way. does the jam protection still work? it rolls back down once it feels the obstacle?

I tried it just now - it works like a charm. I held down the unlock button, the windows and sunroof all opened...stuck my arm in the way of the back window...held down the lock button...windows close...jam protection immediately senses my arm in the way (very little pressure) and rolls down that window while the others continue to close.

All in all very cool!

ah thanks for the test! so now we know the jam sensor are still functional even when the car is shut off (it was one of the points in discussion a while back in the 2gs forum i believe). so i see one less reason why they don't implement the feature here

...as litigation happy as people are in the US...I'm sure that someone would manage to get stuck and sue Toyota/Lexus for the ability to have the windows roll up...

I'm guessing someone, somewhere has figured out how to get the windows to roll up with the factory fob?

It would take some wiring and a module, but I have seen modules that can interface with a remote start where you click the lock button on the factory fob 3X and it'll remote start.

So that means you could use that same module to roll the windows up - it should only take an aftermarket module or 2 to accomplish it.
