front license place holder?
I noticed that a lot of the cars on the dealers lots have the front license plate holder on them. I dont like the way that they drill holes in the bumper in order to do this... do dealers usually listen when you ask them not to do this or do all of them just come this way?
Depends on the dealership. Usually you will need to request to not have the front plates drilled. Here in CA, it's a requirement by DMV to have a front license plate installed at all times. Some dealers do and some don't.
We aren't required to have a front license plate in PA...we can't buy beer and liquor in the same store and we can't buy it on Sundays and we can't buy it in the supermarkets, but we don't have front license plates. I think it's an even trade. Even if they did reqire it, I would never put it on...and I even for for PSP.
Just picked up my '07 Smokey Granite/Black GS350 AWD on Wednesday. I specifically asked the dealer NOT to put on the front license plate frame since Delaware where I live doesn't have front plates, and they said no problem. So I was pretty ticked when I got to the dealership to pick up the car and saw that the frame had been installed anyway. Turns out the dealer in Virginia that they swapped with to get me the color combo I wanted had already installed it since VA does have front tags. The salesperson first said they could just insert body-colored plugs (at their cost), but then the service department said there is no such a part and no way to fill holes, so I can either leave the frame on or take it off and live with the holes. But I searched and found another thread here yesterday that mentioned www.bumperplugs.com, which look pretty good, so I'll probably give that a try. Not exactly a great way to start my relationship with the dealer, but at least everything else with the transaction went smoothly. And of course I LOVE the car!

I am glad that you decided to move on and tried to enjoy your new ride. I would still let the higher management (dealer) know that they broke a promise to the customer... you should get something in return.

we can do any of that and we can legally tint all our windows
The dealer told me that as soon as the car arrives at the port, they drill the plates on there. But, if you request it and the car hasn't arrived yet, they will not drill the holes. This is only from my experience.
Bottom line is, you should get whatever you agreed upon and when you notice that you're not getting what you asked for, don't take it.
That is incorrect. All of the cars fresh off the truck at dealerships with the plastic wraps still on do not have a front license plate holder. They drill it at the dealerships.
