Is it really worth 4x the price for the Carbon filter vs. particle filter? Does it make that much of a difference?

Good thing i saw this today. I had ordered my filter and tried to do it myself but it wouldn't come out. Good thing i didn't force it out. So if i get this straight, is it just a matter of putting the air on "recirculate" then pulling it out?

That's correct make sure recirculate is selected before touch anything. It's the LEFT pic on the image.

I pass the DC Water treatment plant every morning ... this morning was disgusting!!!
After reading all of the post I have a few options that I need to investigate:
1. Open up the compartment and determine what is broken and/ not working
2. I have the part number of the Air Flow box for a total replacement. Will need to see how much of a discount I can get on it and have someone replace it. I have a "shade tree" mechanic that raced hondas and does wonders with japanese cars.
3. Find the part at a junk yard like GS300ken said he did and have it installed ... but NOT by the dealer.

From here on ... I'll change the stupid filter myself and put a big sign on it stating "DO NOT TOUCH"

Thanks for everyone's responses.

Sorry to clarify, I know the filter itself fits into the plastic casing but I meant when u place the casing into the glove box area mine seems to rest in there at an angle and not straight in

I haven't changed mine in a while (am I due?), but from what I can remember it's on a slight angle. I don't think you can really put it in wrong unless of course you force it. "That's what she said"

It's not 4x it was about 2.5x the price I was quoted and it was definitely worth it to me! Everytime I start the A/C or fresh air there would be a strong pungent odor like old **** reeking through the whole car. The second I changed the filter it was odorless air and if there are any smells coming from outside it's very faint. If you have smelly A/C this would help out TONS.

Thanks! Guess that settles that, I'm buying one! I thought there was a cat living in my car for the longest time pissing in my AC.

Yes, when you create you member login towards the bottom just enter your CL name and you get good discounts on everything as long as your logged in.

I just bought one today and it was $42 (but $10 for shipping kinda stinks), but it gets to you pretty quick.
