Wait a minute. Is the GS 350 the most powerful V-6 in class?

The 07 Nissan 350Z with the new VQ35HR engine that has the 7500 RPM redline has 313PS in the UK.
Torque is slightly down on the original VQ35DE Z engine at 358Nm but torque is very flat across the range. 0-60 is in the low 5s.

What I find interesting is that the 350 is more powerful than the 430. Thirteen more horsepower to be exact You guys know why the V6 puts out more hp?
Yes I was surprised when I saw the 303 hp rating for the V6. I thought I was looking at the 430 specs when I saw that number.
What are the torque ratings for the V8 & V6?

But yeah, to answer the question for a 3.5L engine the GS350 is quite powerful.

the 535i comes underrated by about 30 to 40 horsepower from the factory. If you go over and check out the Bimmer forums they have dynos of stock cars putting down anywhere from 280-300 at the wheels so with driveline loss that puts it at approx 330 at the crank. It was so the 335i wasn't competing to closely with the M3 at a much cheaper price. The procede piggy back and similar units make those Twin Turbo Inline Six awful beastly.

Torque at the engine is nothing without gearing. Despite having more torque at the crank, the GS350 makes more power in 1st, 2nd, etc gears over the GS430 because of torque multiplication thanks to the 4.08 final gear ratio. However we make more power in 4th gear and so on forth

I'm surprised Lexus hasn't brought a twin turbo in-line 6 to the States. The Soarer (SC300) was available in Japan with a TT 16 years ago. Toyota seems to be going toward larger, less fuel efficient V-6s instead. BMW will be bringing the 330d to the States soon. Mega torque and 40mpg!

Imagine, Toyota/Lexus engineering is pumping out 303HP N/A while the 2JZ-GTE was good for its time but not really a fuel efficient high hp beast. The JZ series block was never designed for fuel efficiency...it was designed for high power performance. A 4spd automatic 2JZ-GTE MKIV Supra did 0-60 in about the same time, (0-60 in 5.6 to 5.8 from what I recall). Today, who other than Lexus/Toyota can claim 303hp, 0-60 in 5.7 seconds and still get 29mpg on the hwy. Direct injection and Dual VVT-i is amazing.

Are you sure about that? The EPA ratings for the 2GR-FSE 3.5L V6 in the GS350 yields 21 City and 29 Hwy. I can attest to this because I averaged on the hwy, 28 mpg on my first trip to NorCal in my GS350 this past weekend. This was during my initial 1k mile break in period.

yeah................what he said!

Point taken, but I guess what I meant was, all things being equal, a smaller displacement TT with todays direct injection technology would give better MPG for a similar level of power. I'm not understanding why Toyota is going away from Turbos since they have proven they can build them.
