Default GS350 Poor Gas Mileage

I just bought the LEXUS GS350 3.5 Liter 303 HP. I just completed my first tank of gas and only averaged 15 miles per gallon. The car sticker said 19 to 27 was the average. I baby the car. I do not accelerate quickly. I treat the car like well, not like a hot rod. I am sick over this. I wanted a nice car with a decent return on milage. Will this improve?

Thanks

A new vehicle must go through a "break-in" period where you will likely get lower than expected gas mileage. It should slowly start to get better once you burn through 5-10 tanks of gas.

Yes! Someone else like me. I get about 16mpg. It all depends how you drive. My average is between 16-18.6mpg. They will tell you its a ballpark figure. here in Hawaii, I drive under 5miles to work and the farthest I would drive is to the lexus dealer which is like 20miles away. I was told with that kind of milage, I should consider my freeway milage as city. Which the dealer willl NOT tell you. He'll go by what's on the paperwork.
And its not just Lexus. My older Maxima was the same way. It was supposed to be in the 20's. I average hit 19mpg and before I sold it, it was around 17mpg.

I have 3,300 miles on mine and I've never gone below 20MPG though. 15MPG is ridiculous.

Did you calculate this yourself or did you get this from the trip computer?

My best was 26MPG on a road trip cruising at 85MPH and daily driving is around 23MPG.

What's your daily driving like?

I've had my car for 5 weeks and I've already got 3,300 miles on it so...

I just completed my first 500 miles and got 22.3 MPG. Mostly a blend of city and highway and while I did not go above 4000 rpm, I did not baby it too much. Something is wrong with that kind of performance.

Let me know what your dealer says. Mine told me it was an average figure. I do n't gun my car around the place. Yet even when I was in my break in times, I hit 19-20mpg.

Actually at 30MPH for 12 miles, your mileage is bound to be low. I don't think you have anything to worry though.

Maybe you could try going on a road trip just to see if performs normally?

15 mpg is crazy low. My GS350 averages 20-25 with mixed city and freeway driving. From LA to Vegas, I average very close to 29 mpg with no traffic. Take your car in for service.
