i prefer to service all my cars often...my preference...and i use synthetic oil and all oem parts.
but when it comes to letting the dealer service for standard oil change/maintainance, i'm not a fan...heard too many horror stories from fellow members...i talked to members and they all recommended a outside shop and i was satisfied with the results and the experience this guy had...
plus, dealerships are rip offs...the only reason i brought my gs to the dealership in fl is because i knew the tech personally...

Buy a case of oil filters and go to a good oil shop you like, give them the filter and have them do the oil change...25 bucks vs. 40.00 or i even heard in Beverly hills 100 bucks!!!

IM not a true believer in all the service that they say is required.
I had my last Lexus for 8 years (1998 GS).
All I ever did was change the oil, tires, and brakes as needed...ocassionally an air filter.
At 115,000 miles I told my mechanic to do what ever is needed to keep the car running well...He charged me 800 bucks to replace some fluids, belts, etc...The dealer wanted 2400 for the same exact thing...
Sold the car with 150k miles on it. These engines will run until there is no leather or paint left on the car...Smart maintenance is all they need...
Just my opinion

Being that our mileage is low I get the oil changed every 6 months. I just got the first synthetic oil change and a 4-wheel alignment yesterday. My toe was off in the front. I had a $99 coupon for a 4 wheel drive/4 wheel alignment from Coliseum Lexus of Oakland and used it at Magnussens in Fremont. Now that I am using Synthetic motor oil should I change my interval from 6 months to 1 year? A good alignment shop typically charges $150-$200 to align an AWD.
