Default Replacing Mark Levinson Speakers

Picked up my 07 GS350 with ML a few days ago - love this car... However the ML sound system is underwhelming.

Has anyone replaced the dash mounted speakers? Would like to get something in there more than a tweeter.

I have searched everywhere online I can think of without finding aftermarket options or sizing for the dash speakers.

Any help appreciated.

I would not fiddle with the speakers if I were you. You are only going to decrease the cars value. A car stereo has its limitations. Mainly the problem is Wind Noise, Road Noise and Engine Noise.

I have just compared the ML stereo with the Premium (Pioneer) Stereo. To me, there was not enough difference that I could pick either out in a blind test. That said, the stereos are probably as good or better than any I've heard in a car stereo.

If you are interested in Audio, perfect your home system. Get into Tubes, high effiecient speakers etc.

My 2 cents.

Why did you pay extra for the ML only to rip it out????

He isnt "ripping" anything out, or decreasing the cars value.
He is replacing his speakers. A simple, and completely normal thing to do.

The ML system is much more then just speakers. It will play MP3's, offers
greater amplifier wattage, and will let you play DVD source material.

Balnk: Thanks, exactly right! ML is definitely a feature plus even if you replace speakers.

CutThroat: I don't want to give up yet - Obviously home audio is superior but believe me car audio can be much better than you see in stock systems.

The strange thing is when looking at the ML speakers they don't look cheap - and actually have separate drivers - however there is something about the midrange that's missing in a bad way.

Not sure how to describe it yet.

Can anyone help me out and get the specs for the speakers in a 2007 GS350? I opted not to go with the ML so I can just upgrade the current speakers in the car. Any thoughts on this idea.

I'm sure the cutouts are the same for both systems, so lots of people could both benefit from this information.

However it looks like not one person in the world knows of any drop in replacement options for the 3GS.

Only way I can think of is to take the dash apart, take some measurements, and try a couple sample sizes from a junkyard. Then after getting the sizes down you could make some real choices.

Really don't want to do this if someone does already know.
