I wish that the RX that backed up into my car in the CostCo parking lot had had the rearview camera, or at least the park assist. I see this feature as limited in value with a sedan, but with some SUVs and minivans it should be mandatory.

There, contributed to my own threadjacking.

So I guess using your logic, navigation systems are also a waste. Why use a nav system when there are paper maps to use.

Don't know why you seem so adverse to PA. When my garage was being renovated, there were tons of boxes occupying my the front area of my garage space. PA was very useful.

Could I live without PA? Sure, quite easily. But since PA was part of my 430's package, I'll happily use it when needed. And I'm hoping that PA will help during the times I have to valet my car...but I'm not holding my breath

actually i do find that the navigation system is useless once you've lived in a city for quite some time and know all the roads. i decided to opt out of buying a nav system in my last two cars because i know the area i live in VERY well. i have friends who have nav in their car and i never see them use it.

like i said....technology just makes people lazier and lazier. some things are worth it, some things aren't.

Well, when Lexus offers a GS with the following amenities:
  • crank windows (hey, it's good exercise!)
  • manual door locks (what? too lazy to take a quick walk around the car?)
  • Drivers-side mirror only (hey, I learned to drive with only one mirror, clearly you don't know the car if you need the passenger side mirror when backing up!)
Be sure to send them your name as the first guy in line to not have all that sloth-inducing technology!

hey, don't go there there are women on this board too... (and btw, i'm a great driver AND parker. i'll take on any guy in a parallel park challenge)

that said, i think PA is a nice added feature. and i wish they put them on all cars now. it's an added benefit to the consumer in that damage to all these fancy new bumpers is quite costly, and spending $100-$200 at the manufacturer level can add up to thousands of dollars in savings for the consumer later on. (don't you ever watch those IIHS segments on Dateline?? http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3607114/ ) you can argue that you never needed it in the first place, but you know what, ***** happens to everybody.

your humor truely rivals that of carrot tops.

obviously you didn't see the line that said, some things are worth it and some things aren't.

Sure I did, but was just trying to make two counter-points:
  1. "worth" is in the eye of the beholder, and
  2. it seems like if you are so down on some of the electronic aids like Nav and PA, then perhaps a luxury car isn't really what you should be buying, as illustrated by reductio ad absurdum of your original arguments
I mean really, I agree that PA doesn't come in handy as often as it might initially appear, but to imply that people who do find it helpful in certain instances are somehow lacking, is, well, absurd.

i never said lacking...i just said, without it, you would know your car dimension a lot better and not rely on it.

oneeyejack-
isn't it enough that you have indirectly insulted everyone who says that it's useful to them to utilize pa in their vehicle and directly insult women with you earlier statement?
i'm hoping that you just stop posting as if you're some high school punk and start posting as a contributing member of a mature community.
try it......it's actually not that difficult to do. i believe you mean well, but look back at your response and those of the other members and you hopefully will see this clearly.

If you are hit by the AMT (and it might affect quite a few people in the market for a $60k sedan), you won't benefit from the hybrid tax credit.

If you were hit by the AMT this year, you'll probably be hit again this year.

get over your high and mighty self. everyone has opinions and that is what a board is for. the woman statement was a joke, and if you've been on forums long enough, you would have realized these things. just because i have a different opinion than you do doesn't mean that i have to agree to what everyone thinks.

i haven't had ANY problems with anyone on here. i'm just having some discussions and everyone is entitled to their opinon.
