Just checking in again with an updated mileage report for my GS300AWD. Traveled about 150 miles. About 120 miles were at 65mph and 30 miles were city stop and go. A/C on the entire time. Filled tank up with 93 octane gas just before the trip. Hit a peak of 28.8 mpg according to the onboard computer! No significant tail winds. I'm absolutely amazed how good the highway gas mileage is on this car, and it's not even broken it yet.

My best run was a combined rural road + highway trip from Peachtree City to Suwanee GA at 34.1mpg. It was a 65 mile trip and I averaged 60mph with the traffic. I planned to take a picture of the screen and put it up here but I never got around to it.

Sub 7s 0-60 and 30+ mpg while cruising in luxury!

I hope that Lexus doesn't replace the GS300 with the GS350 for just this reason. (I hope that both models are offered).

Hmmm...wow, I beleive that the new models are getting some seriously great mileage, but the numbers you got, is that even possiblenot trying to put you on the spot or knock on you or anything)?? I might be reading it wrong, but 970miles on 1 tank is really extreme and pretty impressive if true. Unless you are tlaking about 2 different experiences.

He said he bought a tank for the one-way leg, so the round trip is 2 tanks. And at 32 MPG and 18 gallons, that 's well over 500 miles per tank!

Contrast that with my one and only first tank of gas in a GS430 doing the commute crawl with mixed highway travel, and I got 21 MPG. It's actually the same as my 1991 Maxima 3L V6 on the same run, so to me it's all upside as it's a much better experience.

By the way, I filled the tank right when it said "0 miles" left to go, and it drank 15.7 gallons, so I figure there were still 3 gallons left in the tank at that point. Is this what y'all figure?

The warning light goes on when it is claimed that the range is 25 miles. At that point the tank barely takes 15 gallons. What does the computer say if you drive past 'zero' range...do the numbers go negative?

I also ran mine down to '0 miles' maybe even a mile or two more, got real nervous looking for a gas station but it only took 15.8 to fill up.

As DrexLex said I got from Atlanta to Orlando on 1 tank, refilled in Orlando and made it back to Atlanta on the refill. You're right, if I had claimed the round trip on 1 tank I would have been smoking something.

In order to get the 34.1mpg I admit that I was very gentle on the pedal. No real sudden starts and when I knew I was going to slow due to traffic ahead I would try to coast a bit. Basic idea is to avoid the brakes if possible. It would be hard to achieve 34mpg if you were not trying - but it is really amazing that this car can do it if you do!

I can't remember if you have a Gen3 GS3... if you do (or anyone else who does) - give it a try to see how high you can get it on the highway.

My light comes on when the range indicates about 25 miles. After it hits 0 miles on the range it just stays there on 0 miles. The refill at 0 miles range (when it hits 0 miles) is usually about 15.5 gallons for me. The tank holds 18.8 gallons if I remember correctly. At 30mpg that is about another 100 miles if you could use every drop. I have no idea how low you can run it before the high pressure fuel system gets upset. I don't want to find out the hard way! But I wonder if the car starts to complain with rough running or if it just quits.

21mpg with a V8 in traffic is pretty good. Let me know how high you can get it after a refill when you are doing highway driving without traffic. You might have to play with the speed to find the sweetspot.

No - it just stays on 0 miles.

I often run for a while after I hit 0 miles range. I have never had to add more than 17 gallons. I wonder if the car gives you some kind of more severe warning if you get near critical?!?

I hope you have a big budget for gas AND tires!

Sounds like everyone is enjoying the car.

Ok.. I checked my milage received from my first four tanks of gas and almost all are in the 14.xx MPG except for 1 tank which was in the 15.xx MPG.. Almost all of my driving is city driving with occasional jaunts on the freeway.. How come everyone else is getting much better milage?

I'm not really tromping on the pedal all that much, but I'm not a feather on the pedal either.. You all are making me feel like somethings wrong with my poor milage.. Any comments? I'm at less than 2000 miles on it so far...

14.xx MPG seems really low for a GS300. It even seems low for a GS430. Not sure what to suggest other than having the dealer look at it for you.

get more miles on it and keep calculating, mpg will go up as engine gets worked in.
Although I would check my calculations first to make sure you are calculating it correctly...

Real city driving, with low speeds, traffic lights, etc, etc, is absolutly worst for gas mileage.

As to checking in with the dealer, I really cant see what can dealer find out except for loosing your time - that is unless your car is leaking fuel somewhere

I've got a bit under 2k miles and am working on my 5-6th tank of gas (don't recall exactly).. I did calculate by hand the milage and it was coming out pretty much right on the money compared to what the computer was calculating..

Now, I filled up the other night to make the tank full.. When I started up the car, my cruising range was a bit under 300 miles if I recall. I then switched over to see the real-time MPG calculation and it initially was at a bit over 24MPG and as I put the next 5-7 miles on the car the number steadily dropped down to the sweetspot on this car (14.xx).. I'm a bit bothered that I'm about the only one getting this poor milage. I'll definately have to check it out with the dealer (in fact, perhaps I'll drop him a note right now).. Maybe they'll give me a GS300 loaner for comparisons
