Default Watch out for the FOB in your pocket.

The range of the 06 FOB is certainly much much greater than my 98 GS. Today I was sitting at my desk where I can see my car which is about 50 feet away outside of our office building.

I stepped into the hall to the receptionist desk and noticed that my windows were down! She said that she wondered why my windows were down and I expalined that the new 06 is so smart that it noticed that it was a beautiful day and lowered the windows for fresh air.

After raising my windows and closing the sunroof I tested it by sitting behind my desk and pushing the lock button with the FOB in my pocket and I saw the yellow turn signals flash. So I went to the next office without a window and proceeded to unlock my door.

Be careful. You wouldn't want to leave your car and accidentally lower the windows just before a rainstorm. Unlocking is not as big an issue (still a concern though) because of the automatic relock feature if the door is not opened within a short period of time. I may disable the auto window feature on my Lexus settings as it is something I only remember using once on my 98 GS.

Funny. Our Mercedes S320 (97) requires that you push the button on the key fob literally a few feet away from the door. I've never seen a more useless remote.

Our other cars all have impressive distances.

Side Note- While washing the car, if the FOB is in your pocket while the water hits the door handles from the hose it will unlock the doors.

mercedes actually uses infared to roll up and down the windows. if you look on the door handles of the driver and passenger door you will see a small black square.

Ok, I know this is an old thread but I need to know how to turn off this feature. Why? Well, 1) I never use it. 2) windows went down automatically the other evening when it was raining without me knowing. Inside of car, soak and wet!!

Does anyone know how to turn this feature off without having to go to the dealer?

when I get to my desk, my wallet and keys go in the drawer. Hide it somewhere in there if you don't trust your coworker.

Best not to keep the key fob in your pocket. I learned it the hard way.
