2008 gs460 smart key access not working
Hey everyone,
I’m having a weird Smart Access issue on my GS460 and could use some advice.
Before I go to the garage, does anyone know if this could be:
I’m having a weird Smart Access issue on my GS460 and could use some advice.
- The car detects the key fine – push start works normally.
- I can lock the car by pressing the button on the handle with no issues.
- But when I touch the back of the handle to unlock, nothing happens on any of the doors.
- The trunk request switch works – it senses the key and opens.
- I only have one key and haven’t replaced the battery yet, but since the car starts and the trunk works I’m not sure if it’s just the battery.
- All 4 doors have the same issue.
- Lock function on handles works fine.
- Trunk works fine.
- Unlock by touch doesn’t work at all.
Before I go to the garage, does anyone know if this could be:
- A weak fob battery even though the car starts?
- A Smart Access ECU issue?
- A wiring/ground problem?
- Or something that can be reset/toggled with Techstream?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Have all of the touch handles never worked since you've had the car? Because that touch feature is built into the door handles but I doubt all 4 went out at the same time. I saw some rust starting to build up on mine when I had the door panels off, one of them was even unplugged. You can check if the car is recognizing it through TS, Smart Access -> Data List -> __ Touch Sensor. Keyfob battery is inexpensive CR1632 $4, can try that first.

Can you contact the previous owner and ask if they had it turned off? If not, and If the fob battery replacement doesn’t work, it may be worth finding a mechanic who has techstream to check the settings, before you go chasing other potential causes.
