Grom Vline Problem
So I’ve had my Grom Vline for two months now and everything had been working fine until like four days ago. To activate the Grom Vline System/Apple carplay, you have to push the disc button twice but when I did, it didn’t show up. Also when I noticed that it knocked my resr view camera out because when I put the car in reverse, nothing but a black screen shows up. Everything else works fine. Factory navigation still works and disc function as well. I’m going to disconnect the Grom system and reconnect it sometime soon but does anyone have a guess what’s the cause of this maybe?

facing the same behavior and found out that the wireless Android Auto was the problem which crashed and freezed the device....My solution is to use android auto with usb cable now... much more stable and if it crashes I just disconnect the cable and reconnect it to the phone and immediately it's working without disconnecting the whole Grom device and turn off the car which i had to do before i used the usb Android Auto.... the support couldn't help me in that case and i believe it's more an Android Auto bug....
maybe with Car Play it's same and could work better if you use cable.
cheers
I appreciate your help, but unfortunately it didn’t work for me. I’ll most likely disconnect & reconnect the grom unit from the display sometime this weekend and hope that resolves the issue.
Anyone find the quality of the grom kind of low quality? I got the vlite vt2 today and it seems that the audio quality is not that high-res, at least through wireless carplay. I replaced a gta bluetooth car kit and that seemed to have sounded better. Does anyone know if this is just normal with the grom or is there a way to improve audio quality?

Yes I noticed sound quality on playing music through CarPlay sounded a bit odd. The sound through my blackweb bluetooth device sounded better. For some reason, even at adjusting the Grom Audio volume settings to low, the mid & treble would sound low but the bass still sounded loud when I listened to music with the factory volume all the way up. Ending up blowing my subwoofer because of it. It’s like the grom vline amplified the bass a whole lot.

@SpecialKennedy Oh dear I fear I might have also blown my subwoofer because of it. May I ask how you knew it was blown? Mine still works but at certain low parts with louder bass I can hear a chuffing or thumping noise. I'm not sure if it is blown, and I don't really think I have the patience or the skill to replace it since apparently, I would have to remove the rear seat and deck assembly completely.

Yes, my subwoofer makes the same sound as well. Part of it is blown. True it is a headache to get to & remove it but I plan on trying to use a repair kit on eBay to fix it instead of buying a new one for $300 like last time. Hope I can also get lucky and pull one from a junkyard as well.
All,
I get similar symptoms and my workaround is before shifting to D;
Hold Brake like Normal + Shift to R
Allow screen to black screen / whitescreen + black lines (or whatever your symptoms)
then shift to D (or any other gear) and drive like normal
When R again to park or to test, the issue won't appear during that drive. If you turn off the car, you'll rinse and repeat.
My guess is a software bug. It can also be the OEM unit picks up faster than the GROM, which causes the blip of video. After establishing the connection/route with the above steps, it caches the route and starts displaying video again. This is a theory of course.
Yes, it's an extra step and if you're not careful, you'll reverse the car accidently. Just be mindful when driving and you'll be fine. When getting a unit like this, it's expected to have bugs. Troubleshoot, find fast easy fixes, and living it with isn't so bad.
Overall, the VLINE2 has been one of my most appreciated upgrades and makes driving, navigating, and playing music a breeze.
Hope this helps.

So I was finally was able to have time to take a look into the problem. I disassembled the whole head unit from the Grom unit & reconnected them and to my pleasant surprise it came back to life. When it booted back up again, I noticed that the Grom unit had two new updates available. One for software and one for firmware. Before my Grom unit cut out, I didn’t know there were new updates available so I suspect a glitch caused it to black out my rear view camera and knock out the unit.
After updating the Grom, everything’s back to working just like normal again. Guess I’m going have to check to see if there’s new updates available more periodically now.
