Starting and steering wheel issues
My problem that I been having in my 98 GS300 is I go to start my car and I just get a click. Of course one would assume a bad battery but after a few tries with taking the key out and putting it back in, also using the opposite side of the key the engine starts right up. Also when you put the key in the ignition the wheel will lower in place and take the key out the wheel rises. There has been times that the wheel would not do this even though the car starts the first attempt. Now the wheel is in the up position and won’t go back. History. Vehicle just had its valve cover and Manifold gaskets changed along with spark plugs and ignition wires due to oil leaks. What is happening?
The movement of the steering column (or lack thereof) is unrelated to the starting problem I would think. There are plenty of threads to hunt down on both topics, try google. The column can be cleaned and or motor replaced if it's not working. If your battery is good, the non-start symptom sounds to me like what I've experienced when the contacts on the starter need to be replaced. There's a kit from toyota / dealer you can request that may cost ~20 that has the fresh contacts. I have some pictures and details in my build: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/bui...-reboot-7.html
Almost certainly a problem with the starter. If you are unable to start it, u can usually get it working by tapping it with a hammer while someone turns the key. But it’s going to need some attention or a replacement.
